  • Paul wants to face Tommy Fury as he is ‘skilled’, ‘undefeated’ and a ‘real boxer’

Jake Paul says he wants to fight a ‘real boxer’ after beating Tyron Woodley last month and has subsequently named Tommy Fury as his ideal opponent.

Paul beat the former UFC welterweight champion by split decision on August 28 to take his record to four wins from four. However, the YouTube sensation is yet to face an actual boxer.

As a result, Paul is campaigning to fight Fury as he believes the 22-year-old’s ‘skillset’ and ‘legendary boxing bloodline’ would present him with a new challenge.

‘I think it’s on to bigger and better things,’ Paul said on the Full Send Podcast. ‘I want to fight a real boxer. We’ll see what the cards have in store.’

He continued: ‘I think Tommy Fury is probably the top of that list. He’s skilled, he’s undefeated, and he’s a real boxer.

‘He has like 4 million followers on Instagram, which is good engagement. He has the fans from like his relationship show (‘Love Island’).’

‘Tommy Fury – this guy comes from a legendary boxing bloodline. He’s undefeated and he’s the same height as me, same age approximately.

‘And I’m sitting here saying, ‘Yo, let’s run it up.”

Paul and Fury were seen discussing a potential fight while backstage in Cleveland on August 28.

Paul had just beaten Woodley – who had never competed in boxing professionally until his meeting with the YouTuber.

While Fury had overcome Anthony Taylor – who was a sparring partner for Paul during their camp leading up to the fight.

Paul approached Fury and said: ‘What’s going on son, what’s good son.’ To which Fury responded saying: ‘Listen, you need to stop running my friend and let’s get it on.’

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has since confirmed that talks between both parties are underway, but admitted that negotiations are still in the early stages.

He told iFL TV: ‘We are talking at the moment, so hopefully something may happen, we’ll see. There’s a long way to go yet.’

‘It all starts with the numbers,’ Paul said. ‘Like, would this fight sell a lot? Would people actually care? Because I could go in right now and fight the infamous jiu-jitsu guy (Dillon Danis) who doesn’t shut the f*** up on social media, but it’s a hard sell.

‘It’s like (I) just beat a UFC Hall of Fame legendary striker. We’re not going to put (me) up against a jiu-jitsu guy in a boxing match.

‘So now, after each fight, we go back to the drawing board, and we’re like, who makes the most sense? Can they actually sell pay-per-views? And can we actually sell this fight as, like, “This is a tough fight for Jake.” Because that’s what I want.’
