Jake Paul offered chance to make his MMA debut by UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov but a move into the UFC still seems unlikely with Paul continuing to throw insults at president Dana White

  • Jake Paul may have taken one step closer to the UFC after being offered a fight
  • It came from UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov who retired undefeated
  • Nurmagomedov said the doors of his fighting promotion were always open
  • Paul has been after a move to the UFC but is in a war of words with Dana White

Jake Paul’s MMA dream became one step closer to a reality after a former UFC champion offered the YouTube-turned-boxer a spot on his fighting promotion.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is a legend of the UFC having retired undefeated with a record of 29-0.

Since his retirement following his final win over Justin Gaethje, Nurmagomedov set up his own MMA fighting promotion.

Eagle Fighting Championship, named after Nurmagomedov’s nickname of the Eagle, was created last year and has so far held four events all held in Russia.

The first non-Russia based event is scheduled later this month and will be hosted in Florida.

For Paul, who has made his interest in MMA known, it seems this may his best route into the sport after he and UFC president Dana White became locked in an insult war online.

Paul claimed White did not pay his fighters enough and that the UFC chief was addicted to cocaine while White said Paul had used steroids in the build-up to this boxing matches and that he had exaggerated his pay-per-view numbers.

While the two continue to insult each other, it seems unlikely Paul would be given a shot in the UFC despite a rumoured fight against Jorge Masvidal but White did say recently that he ‘never says never anymore.’

In the meantime, Paul may make his MMA debut in Nurmagomedov’s promotion after the ex-UFC star invited him and his team.

Paul tweeted about what weight he would fight at should he make his MMA debut and claimed he would fight at middleweight (185 pounds) rather than cutting down to welterweight (170 pounds) as he claims ‘That’s what all UFC fighters do and many have destroyed their bodies and minds doing it.’

After he made the claim,  Nurmagomedov replied saying ‘The doors of Eagle Fight Club [are] always open for you and your team.’

Whether Paul takes him up on his offer remains to be seen but it appears that a future in MMA is becoming more likely for the YouTuber.
