Jalen Hurts refused to reveal whether he will visit Donald Trump at the White House to celebrate the Eagles’ Super Bowl win.

Philadelphia’s players and coaches are due in the nation’s capital on April 28 to toast their stunning victory over the Chiefs in February.

But during an interview with TIME on Thursday, Hurts was asked if he was planning on heading to the White House.

‘Ermmmm,’ the quarterback said before staying silent, prompting an abrupt and awkward end to the interview.

Earlier this month, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie insisted every player would be given the choice pf whether to attend or not.

‘Our culture is that these are optional things,’ Lurie said. ‘If you want to enjoy this, come along and we’ll have a great time and if you don’t, it is totally an optional thing.’

There was previous speculation about whether Trump would invite the Eagles to the White House following their win at Super Bowl LIX.

The team did not visit Washington to celebrate victory at Super Bowl LII. Trump – then in his first term if office – canceled the event after it emerged that only a handful of players were planning to attend.

But the Eagles accepted the invitation to attend this month, with Lurie explaining: ‘We just felt this is a time-honored tradition being invited by the White House… so there was no reticence whatsoever.

‘To be celebrated at the White House is a good thing. There were special circumstances (in 2018) that were very different, and so this was kind of an obvious choice and look forward to it.’

He added: ‘When you grow up and you hear about, “Oh, the championship team got to go to the White House,” that’s what this is. And so we didn’t have that opportunity and now we do. I think we’re all looking forward to it.’

The Eagles owner insisted their decision to attend did not reflect a wider political stance on Trump.

‘This is really just an invitation from the White House,’ he said. ‘That’s all this is, and we’re not politicizing it in any way. Not for us.’

Hurts was named Most Valuable Player after leading the Eagles to a stunning 40-22 victory over Kansas City in New Orleans.

The quarterback threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another score as Philadelphia denied Patrick Mahomes and Co a historic three-peat.
