James Corden hosts another fundraiser after amfAR backlash

He was forced to apologise after a huge backlash after he was condemned on social media for making jokes about Harvey Weinstein as he hosted the amfAR Gala in Los Angeles.

But little over a week later, James Corden returned to emcee duties at another AIDS fundraiser.

The British presenter, 39, was on hosting duties at the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and the nonprofit mothers2mothers in Beverly Hills on Wednesday.

Second chance? James Corden returned to emcee duties at another AIDS fundraiser a little over a week since he faced a backlash over his Weinstein jokes at the amfAR gala

Keeping to his script, he oversaw the evening which was attended by a host of stars, including Taylor’s goddaughter, Paris Jackson, her brother Prince, supermodel Heidi Klum and actor John Stamos.

He has kept a low profile since he was slammed for a series of ill-advised gags about the disgraced movie mogul to an unimpressed crowd at amfAR.

During the night, the audience of A-listers reacted to James’ jokes with a mixture of groans and applause.

‘This is a beautiful room, it’s a beautiful night here in L.A,’ Corden told the assembled crowd in his opening monologue. ‘It’s so beautiful, Harvey Weinstein has already asked tonight up to his hotel to give him a massage.’

To the consequent mixture of applause and groans, he said: ‘If you don’t like that joke, you should probably leave now.’

He continued: ‘It has been weird this week though, watching Harvey Weinstein in hot water. Ask any of the women who watched him take a bath.

‘Harvey Weinstein wanted to come tonight, but sadly he’ll settle for whatever potted plant is closest.’

He later apologised for his jokes, writing on Twitter: ‘To be clear, sexual assault is no laughing matter. I was not trying to make light of Harvey’s inexcusable behaviour, but to shame him, the abuser, not his victims. I am truly sorry for anyone offended, that was never my intention.’

On the red carpet, Paris and Prince led the way, holding hands as they posed for photos. Their late father Michael Jackson, who died in 2009, was best friends with late legend Taylor.

Paris announced last month that she has become an ambassador for the foundation established by the late Hollywood star who was her godmother.

The teen told InStyle last month that she had also been deeply moved during a recent trip to the African country of Malawi to learn more about the work of mothers2mothers that seeks to support and educate mothers in sub-Saharan Africain order to minimize the numbers of children born HIV positive.

‘The most heartbreaking moment of all this for me was when I met a 20-year-old mother affected by HIV who was in the mothers2mothers support program. If she had gotten medication sooner, she wouldn’t have passed HIV on to her child,’ paris told the magazine.

‘When she talked about it, I could see in her eyes that she was expecting death. Here, with the medical advances that we have, there’s still a chance…. But when you get diagnosed with HIV out there, you get it and you think you’re a goner,’ she added.
