James Franco sports flashy period hair filming The Deuce in NYC

He has faced a raft of sexual harassment accusations.

But James Franco vanished into his work on Tuesday, looking nearly unrecognizable as he filmed his HBO series The Deuce in New York City.

The 39-year-old wore an extravagantly large wig, wrapping up in a fur-trimmed camel-colored overcoat that evoked the show’s 1970s setting.

Cigarette in mouth, Franco shielded his eyes from the sun with a pair of shades, pulling a beige knit sweater over a powder blue collared shirt.

He rounded off the ensemble with jeans and a pair of walnut brown shoes, stepping off the curb and into the street.

James was also seen sitting with a disposable coffee cup – next to someone who wore gloves that were apparently stained with fake blood.

Created by David Simon and George Pelacanos, HBO’s The Deuce aired its first season last year and stars Franco as twins Frankie and Vinnie Martino.

With a cast that includes Maggie Gyllenhaal and Gbenga Akinnagbe, the show recounts the rise of the porn industry.

Entertainment Tonight reported that last month, the show’s scriptwriter Megan Abbott confirmed that ‘of course’ Franco would return for the second season, despite being the subject of multiple allegations of inappropriate behavior.

Franco has been accused of sexual harassment and abuse of power, both by women he has worked with in the entertainment industry, and former students in at his New York acting school.

He became the subject of speculation after several women, including The Breakfast Club actress Ally Sheedy made accusations about him on social media during the Golden Globes Awards, where he picked up the award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his performance in The Disaster Artist.

Several days after the ceremony an article was published in the Los Angeles Times detailing the accounts of five women who accused the Pineapple Express star of inappropriate behavior.

Franco then appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to address the claims.

Asked about the tweets he said: ‘I haven’t read them. I’ve heard about them.

‘I have no idea what I did to Ally Sheedy. I had nothing but a great time with her. I have total respect for her.

‘If I have done something wrong, I will fix it – I have to. That’s how that works. I don’t know what else to do.’
