James Tedesco steps out with his girlfriend in a VERY unflattering T-shirt after he was fined for ‘drunken behaviour’ on a night out where he was accused of shouting ‘Squid Game’ at a Vietnamese-Aussie

  • Couple stepped out after Tedesco fined $10,000 for drunken public behaviour
  • NRL Integrity Unit investigation didn’t prove any allegations of racist behaviour
  • Tedesco was accused of a racist slur directed at a woman outside a Bondi pub

Footy superstar James Tedesco turned heads after stepping out with his glamorous girlfriend Maria Glinellis in ritzy Sydney suburb Double Bay.

It comes after the Sydney Roosters fullback was issued a $10,000 fine by the NRL on November 12 following a night out in October where he was accused of yelling ‘Squid Games’ towards a woman of Vietnamese descent.

The skipper of the Tricolours allegedly shouted the reference to the hit South Korean Netflix series at Tiffany Trinh, 20, outside Bondi’s Beach Road Hotel.

That sparked an investigation from the NRL Integrity Unit, which didn’t prove any allegations of racist behaviour.

Tedesco was instead heavily fined for drunken public behaviour and ‘bringing the game into disrepute.’

Ms Trinh previously said she was waiting with a friend for a lift home when she was approached by Tedesco and a group of friends.

‘It was a group of about ten footy boys, and I was pretty intimidated,’ she told the Sydney Morning Herald.

‘A 20-year-old tiny girl, waiting for a lift home and you have a bunch of guys come up to you and laugh at you for being Asian.’

Ms Trinh later told her family, with her outraged sister Katherine posting an open letter to the NRL star on Instagram.

‘You don’t know me, or my family. However, last night you felt compelled to say “squid game” at my sister when you walked past her outside of Beach Road in Bondi,’ Katherine claimed at the time.

‘She was shocked, and in the moment, was too embarrassed to say anything because you were with a group of footy players. However, her friend called you out on it and you responded, “Do you know who I am?”’

Ms Trinh’s sister called Tedesco entitled and said he needed to be accountable for his behaviour.

The scathing social media post prompted the Roosters to launch their own investigation into the matter.

The club was quick to defend its star player and claimed that Tedesco had been discussing the hit Korean television show with friends within earshot of Ms Trinh, rather than crying out at her specifically.

‘After we found out about the Instagram post, we thoroughly investigated the matter,’ Roosters chief executive Joe Kelly said.

‘There was absolutely no interaction between James Tedesco with this group of people. We categorically deny that anything untoward occurred.’

On November 12, the NRL integrity unit proposed the 28-year-old pay a $10,000 fine and undergo education and training programs following the alleged incident.

The breach notice did not reference the alleged racist remark, instead claiming Tedesco ‘behaved in a drunken and disorderly manner and also brought the game into disrepute’.

‘The particulars of the breach notice are that Tedesco allegedly engaged in drunken and disorderly behaviour directed at members of the public which caused offence,’ the NRL’s statement read.

Tedesco won back to back premierships with the Roosters in 2018 and 2019 and also took home the coveted Dally M Medal two years ago.
