Jamie Redknapp hails ‘fantastic’ and ‘magnificent’ performance by Liverpool in their 3-0 win over Leeds… as Sky pundit warns Marcelo Bielsa he must tweak his tactics against the top sides

  • Liverpool overcame Leeds 3-0 at Elland Road on Sunday evening
  • Jamie Redknapp described the performance as ‘fantastic’ and ‘magnificent’
  • The Reds are unbeaten from the first four and sit joint-top of the league table
  • Leeds’ slow start to the season continues as search for their first win goes on

Jamie Redknapp was full of praise for Liverpool after their ‘fantastic’ and ‘magnificent’ display in the 3-0 win over Leeds at Elland Road.

The Reds managed to weather an early storm before Mohamed Salah gave them the lead after 20 minutes. That was followed by goals from Fabinho and Sadio Mane in what eventually became a comfortable win at the end.

Redknapp was left impressed and believed that ‘it was too easy for Liverpool’ and that they ‘outclassed’ Leeds – who suffer yet another heavy defeat in the hands of a ‘Top 6’ side.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, the former Reds midfielder said: ‘Liverpool were fantastic, team and individual. They were magnificent. They showed class, quality, how to play against a team man marking you.

‘Thiago was incredible today. First 20 minutes, Liverpool dug deep and then second half they were fantastic.

‘It could have been more, Leeds were outclassed. They’re a joy to watch but sometimes you’ve got to change it. Bielsa’s done such a wonderful job but there are times when you’re going to be outclassed. It was too easy for Liverpool to open them up.’

Despite the game being overshadowed by the gruesome injury to Harvey Elliott, Jurgen Klopp was satisfied with his team’s performance but admitted there is still ‘space for improvement’.

The Liverpool boss said: ‘We were really good today, we played a top, top game. With Harvey off and everyone in shock, we lost rhythm but still controlled the game. We gave them too many set pieces, but who cares?

‘In the end, 3-0 is a top result, we are not that greedy to say we should have had 5 or 6 goals. We had a lot of shots, but not good enough. We have space for improvement but the football we played was exceptional.’

Liverpool are now unbeaten from their first four league games and sit on 10 points alongside Manchester United and Chelsea at the top of the table.

Klopp’s side will host AC Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday night before welcoming Crystal Palace to Anfield next weekend.
