Jane The Virgin star Greice Santo takes aim at sex predators with new song

Jane the Virgin star Greice Santo is standing up to sex predators and abusive men with her debut single ‘VOCÊ VOCÊ’.

The model and actress is embarking on a music career and hopes her first song – released on April 6 – will empower women to stand up to sexual harassment and abuse.

The single is being produced by 16-time Grammy winning record producer Humberto Gatica, who has worked with performers such as Madonna, Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson.

The Brazilian-born star revealed she has been sexually harassed ‘several times’ throughout her career and was inspired by the #MeToo movement to take a stand against predatory men – through music.

The empowering track, has been written by Jaime Ciero, who last year sued Disney claiming the famous Frozen song ‘Let It Go’ was inspired by his ‘Volar’.

Greice’s song even got the thumbs up from legendary music producer David Foster, also a 16-time Grammy award winner, who gave it his seal of approval.

In an exclusive video obtained by DailyMail.com, Foster, who has worked with stars such as Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, and Michael Bublé, listens to the track at his LA home before giving his thumbs up to the camera.

Greice told DailyMail.com: ‘I love modeling and acting but I’m really excited to launch a music career – especially if it means I can draw attention to issues that are very close to my heart such as this one.

‘Like many women in this industry I have been sexually harassed far too many times.

‘I know how it feels to be disrespected and taken advantage of – but now it’s my turn to fight back.

‘I’ve been inspired by the courage of all the women in the #MeToo movement to finally take a stand against this and say: ‘No more’.

‘I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with the hugely talented Humberto Gatica to address this issue through song.

‘For someone who grew up poor in the ghettos of Brazil – it is like a dream come true.

‘While the song is a light-hearted pop song – the message is to all the predators out there, to all the men who have abused their power, to all those who thought they could get away with it – enough is enough.

‘This is our time now – and no woman should ever have to suffer like this again.’

The Spanish language track ‘VOCÊ VOCÊ’ is about how a woman wants to go out and dance but is relentlessly pursued by a man who harasses her and offers her money and work in return for sexual favors.

In defamation lawsuit last year, Santo had claimed she was offered $1.5 million to sleep with billionaire hockey team owner Daryl Katz for a shot at fame.

Chilean-American producer Gatica revealed he decided to take part in the project to show his support for all the women who have bravely shared their stories as part of the #MeToo movement.

The project is Santo’s debut in the music industry – but Gatica was unfazed by this.

‘It didn’t matter to me that this was Greice’s first time in the studio – this is all about helping to empower women to get their voices heard,’ he said.

‘I’ve been moved and inspired by all the women who have told their stories about the horrific abuse they’ve been subject to by men during their careers.

‘When Greice approached me and told me her story I knew straight away I wanted to work with her.

‘We deliberately chose an upbeat, fun song because we want to try and reach as many people as possible – but it’s message is serious.

‘This is about women standing up for themselves and others.

‘This goes beyond the entertainment industry and sends a strong message to women that they don’t have to put up with this kind of behavior anymore.’

Santo last year set up her own initiative to inspire and help abused and vulnerable women called ‘Glam With Greice’.

Last April she provided 500 meals for people in need at the Glam With Greice event before performing a song dedicated to empowering women and standing firm against abuse – as part of the initiative.

Speaking at the charity event she had organized for the local community in Santa Monica, California she told the crowd: ‘Stand up for yourself, stand up to bullies. If you don’t stand up for yourself, who will?

‘We have to stick together.’

Through Glam With Greice she has helped dozens of women in need with free makeovers, concert tickets and new outfits.

One recipient was bullied Latina waitress Sadie Elledge, whose story of how a customer left her a note reading ‘I only tip citizens’ went viral, to have a Hollywood-style makeover and meet rocker Axl Rose.

Santo’s single ‘VOCÊ VOCÊ’ will be available to download on iTunes on April 6.

The star added: ‘We are currently in preproduction of the most amazing music video for VOCÊ VOCÊ that I can’t wait to share with my fans.

‘It will really empower women all over the world. Shooting starts the end of this month. Check out my Instagram @greicesanto for updates.’
