Janet Street-Porter: Trump and Stormy no comparison to Bill Clinton

But are Stormy’s allegations of extra-marital lust a threat to the Presidency, or just another chapter in the well-documented past of an elderly bloke who seems unable to keep his hands to himself if there’s anything female with a pulse within grabbing distance?

Could a wandering penis topple a President?

Denigrated as a liar by Trump and his supporters, porn star Stormy Daniels has ratcheted up the pressure on the Oval Office by offering to describe The Donald’s manhood in great detail.

Her interview on CBS last Sunday gave the TV show it’s highest ratings in ten years- 22 million tuned in to find out what went on in the Penthouse Suite of a Lake Tahoe hotel back in 2006, a few months after Melania had given birth to Barron.

Daniels makes all sorts of allegations about her so-called ‘affair’ with the President and has managed to parley maximum impact out of a relationship that was only consummated once (according to her) and even then the main event was ‘textbook generic’ in one position.

She’s added the tit-bit that she spanked Trump with a rolled up magazine which happened to have his face on it’s cover.

This is not another MeToo saga, Stormy is no victim, by her own account.

The sex, even if lacklustre and with a man to whom ‘she was not attracted’, was consensual.

This strong woman has fought her way to the top of a tough business (I’d rather skin eels or work in a slaughterhouse than perform sex to order watched by a film crew) but cannot explain why she took the lift to Trump’s room to discover he was wearing his pyjama bottoms – which surely must have rung a few alarm bells.

Even stranger, she can’t explain why she (allegedly) chatted to a man she didn’t fancy for a few hours and then willingly had sex with him.

Stormy – born Stephanie Gregory Clifford in Baton Rouge in 1979 – was stripping at 17, and from 21 appeared in adult movies as Stormy Daniels.

Her work includes The Witches of Breastwick and Camp Cuddly Pines Powertool massacre, a video that hasn’t got much to do with home decorating.

She won many adult film awards, including several for ‘favourite breasts’, but quickly realised that real money could be made in directing.

Her real reason for getting involved with Trump (she says) was to appear on his Apprentice series, and (according to her) he promised to try and achieve her dream.

As the months went by, Stormy received regular calls from Trump, but nothing from his producers.

Finally, she visited his bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where they watched Shark Week on the sofa and he wanted to make out.

This time, no TV role, no deal, and Stormy exited.

This story is so uninteresting, I cannot imagine why Michael Cohen, Trump’s personal lawyer, felt compelled to mortgage his house and pay Stormy $130,000 dollars, in order to get her to sign a non-disclosure agreement and shut up, during Trump’s bid for the Presidency in 2016

Mr Cohen says Trump knew nothing about this – whatever, but everyone is worked up now because Stormy’s 2011 interview with In Touch magazine (never published at the time because she withdrew it, claiming that she was threatened) detailing the relationship in great detail – was finally published this year.

Stormy alleges she was made to sign a letter saying she’d invented the affair, but now she’s launched a crowd funding campaign to fund her legal bills and she’s counter-suing Michael Cohen for defamation – and he’s suing her for blabbing.

Another beautiful woman, former Playboy model Karen McDougal, claims she conducted a ten month sexual affair with Trump – she also signed a NDA, receiving $150,000 to stay silent.

Both women’s stories have strong similarities, Trump doesn’t use a condom during sex, reveals that he and Melania sleep in separate bedrooms, and compares his lovers favourably to his daughter Ivanka, with whom he is besotted in a slightly creepy way.

These women knew what they were getting into – unlike the dozen or so others who have come out since MeToo claiming he groped or kissed them without permission.

In fact, you could say Stormy and Karen have pimped their stories off the back of MeToo in order to maximize their earning potential.

The pair are hardly feminist icons, just a couple of businesswomen trying to make a buck out of a pretty unsavoury episode in their lives, sex with a much older man who may or may not have helped their careers.

Does all this make Trump unsuitable to be President? Hardly. He is simply following in a well-documented tradition of powerful men treating women like quick-turnaround relief from the drudge of their job.

Bill Clinton hit on Monica Lewinsky – a naive 20 year-old intern in the White House – a misuse of power and a one-sided affair, which he denied repeatedly.

Monica’s life was ruined. Now, we’re supposed to think Clinton has reformed and repented – every time I see his pious face tipping up at gatherings of worthies trying to help the world’s poor, I want to puke.

And he’s clung to religion as his crutch – at least Donald isn’t a hypocrite in that league.

What about President Jack Kennedy who is said to have had sex with Marilyn Monroe, around the time they both went to a party at Bing Crosby’s house in Los Angeles?

His brother Bobby, happily married with 11 children, was also said (by a Kennedy family member) to have had an affair with the movie star.

I loathe Donald Trump for all sorts of things – lack of depth, inability to listen to others, lack of emotional intelligence and brazen ignorance in world affairs – but extra-marital affairs are no disqualification for high office.

Can you imagine if the roles were reversed and we discovered that our Prime Minister Theresa May or President Macron had enjoyed a couple of one-night stands before they were elected?

Wouldn’t it make them just a bit more interesting?
