A park in Japan has been dubbed ‘the land health and safety forgot’ as it allows children to play with knives, climb onto roofs and even light fires.
Hanegi Play Park in Tokyo operates under the philosophy children are better to play freely than be restricted by safety.
Children operate sharpened saws, nails, and hammers. They even light bonfires and have open air cookouts.
The park’s wooden slides and climbing frames are handmade by children who play in the park, while signs are dotted around that read ‘play at your own risk’.
Parents that take their children there use the park as a way to teach them.
Speaking to Sora News, one mother said ‘Of course sometimes the kids get small injuries, but that’s usually a learning experience for them’.
‘We want people who know the purpose of letting kids play to visit our park.’
