The charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars if convicted.

According to NSW Criminal Code, a sexual assault becomes ‘aggravated’ if the offender inflicts ‘actual bodily harm on the alleged victim intentionally’.

The 30-year-old has been granted strict conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on December 10.

Hayne allegedly met and had sex with his accuser in the Hunter region after they began talking on social media.

The 26-year-old woman claimed she and Hayne were having consensual sex but she ‘withdrew her consent’.

She allegedly she suffered injuries during the sexual encounter with Hayne – which required medical treatment.

The woman originally made a complaint to the NRL’s Integrity Unit about the incident, which she claims happened on September 30.

The NRL referred the woman to the police.

Over the weekend, Hayne hired Salim Mehajer’s former lawyer Ramy Qutami.

He is yet to comment on the latest allegations, and his family on the NSW Central Coast told 9 News ‘there’ll be no comment’.

Hayne’s manager Wayne Beavis and former Parramatta Eels teammates have not spoken to him since news of the allegations first broke on Thursday night.

Hayne, a two-time Dally M Medallist, is one of the biggest names in the NRL and had a magical run to help the Eels to the 2009 grand final.

He has played 11 Tests for Australia, 23 State of Origins for NSW and scored 121 tries in 214 NRL games.

A statement from New South Wales Police in regards to his charges said: ‘He was charged with aggravated sexual assault-inflict actual bodily harm on victim.’

‘Police will allege in court that the man attended a home in the Hunter region on Sunday 30 September 2018, and sexually assaulted a 26-year-old woman.
