Jason Roy will report for England duty on Saturday with no lingering issues expected from the back spasm that forced him to retire hurt while batting for Surrey earlier this week.

All 17 members of the inflated squad selected for the one-day international against Ireland next Friday plus six limited-overs fixtures against Pakistan – including Roy and Joe Denly, who also suffered a back spasm on county duty – will be asked to undergo the England team’s annual fitness testing.

These tests are usually carried out at the national academy at Loughborough but this year will take place at the South Wales hotel base for convenience ahead of the flight out to Dublin.

England fly back to Cardiff a week on Saturday for a one-off Twenty20 contest with the Pakistanis at Sophia Gardens the following day.

Some members of the squad are expected to make a final Royal London Cup appearance for their counties before joining the pre-World Cup camp.

Although the number will not include those who have been participating in the Indian Premier League like new dad Jos Buttler, Adil Rashid, who has already fulfilled the three group games he pledged to play for Yorkshire, or Alex Hales, who remains on personal leave from Nottinghamshire.
