A Sunderland fan preparing for the Black Cats’ Wembley clash against Charlton cracked his head open after stripping down to his boxer shorts and diving into a fountain.

The supporter had been larking around with his friends in Trafalgar Square when he decided to embrace his inner Tom Daley and take a dip in the fountain.

He took off his watch, stripped down to his underpants, then with a dance made his way to the edge of the fountain where other Sunderland fans had gathered.

It didn’t take much to persuade him to jump into the water, and with a slap to the bottom he jumped into the shallow waters.

However, it was clear once he got out of the water, that he had not anticipated just how shallow it would be.

Blood was pouring down his forehead and nose and it was clear that the reveller had split his head open during the stunt.

Many fans had been in the square during the day, enjoying the weather and a variety of beverages.

It seems however, that a beer blanket had engulfed this supporter, as he seemed oblivious to his injuries.

Other fans pointed out his injuries, and one was heard shouting ‘oh he’s banged his head open’.

Another seemed concerned and asked him if it hurt, while others chanted ‘legend, legend, legend’.

Despite him clearly being injured someone tells him to do it again.

Social media was awash today with clips and photos of Trafalgar Square from the weekend which showed Sunderland fans making the most of their time in the capital.

Videos showed one man climbing into the fountain, while many fans stripped off to their underwear to hop in.

However, not everyone was impressed with the actions of Sunderland fans, after they left litter all over the square.

One Twitter user said: ‘Look at the state of Trafalgar Square last night! Shameful behaviour from the Sunderland fans!’

This is while another account tweeted: ‘Spare a thought for any tourists expecting a nice walk around Trafalgar Square when Sunderland are in the play-off final.’

Another said: ‘London is the one of the finest city in the world for pubs and they’ve all just parked up with cans at Trafalgar Square.’
