Jay Dee Windross devastated after baby girl Amiyah dies just days after stranger steals their phone

Terminally ill baby girl Amiyah Windross has tragically died after battling an ‘undiagnosed’ condition since birth

A terminally ill baby girl has tragically died just days after a brazen thief stole her parents’ mobile phone containing irreplaceable memories of her.

Melbourne couple Jay and Dee Windross revealed their 11-month-old daughter Amiyah had been fighting an ‘undiagnosed neurological issue from the day she was born’.

But in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Amiyah lost her battle just less than one month from her first birthday.

In a heartbreaking post on Facebook, the distraught father paid an emotional tribute to his little fighter with an ‘infectious smile’ after spending her final moments with her.

‘It is with utter sadness that Dee and I inform everyone that Amiyah Victoria grew her wings at 2.05am on Wednesday morning. Amiyah’s last hours were spent peacefully and calmly, cuddling in Mummy’s and Daddy’s arms – which is what she loved most,’ Mr Windross said.

‘Her strength, her courage, and her unrelenting fight was on display from her first breath, all the way till her last. She held on and fought every minute to stay cuddling with her Mummy and Daddy for as long as she could and we can’t begin to describe how brave and courageous she was.

‘As incredibly empty as we are feeling right now, we are relieved that Amiyah is no longer in any more pain or distress. Although this came on quite suddenly, Dee and I noticed a regress recently and we’ve been mentally aware that this day would come at any time.

‘Amiyah knew how much we loved her and in return, we knew how much she loved us. We could tell in her gaze whenever she looked at us.’

The father said the past 11 months had been ‘extremely challenging’ for the young family-of-three but they were able to build fond memories together.

‘Those 11 months Amiyah inspired many and touched everyone she met. Amiyah taught us so much as people, and as parents, and made Dee and I stronger,’ he said.

‘Amiyah has given us more courage and strength than we ever knew possible. She pushed us to our limits constantly, but we continuously found ways to push them further.

‘Amiyah turned our relationship and home into a family and we will forever be grateful that she chose us as parents.’

The grieving father went on to describe his little girl as ‘absolutely perfect in our eyes’ and she will ‘forever be our beautiful little bubba’.

‘We will never stop thinking about you and those chubby cheeks,’ Mr Windross said.

‘That infectious big toothy smile that you would show us when we cuddled with you will stay in our minds forever.

‘We know that you were made up of a bit of Mummy and a bit of Daddy, so you will always have us with you where ever you go.

‘No matter what, you will forever be in our hearts and we are so proud of you. We will never have to see you grow old and frail.

‘We love you endlessly bubba. Love Mummy and Daddy. Amiyah Victoria Windross.’

His gut-wrenching tribute comes just days after the parents made a desperate social media plea for their stolen mobile phone to be returned.

The couple were in Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping Centre on Saturday when Dee accidentally left her Samsung Galaxy S8 with a purple cover in a toilet cubicle.

The phone contains priceless pictures of little Amiyah, whose condition was ‘deteriorating’ in the Monash Children’s Hospital.

‘Someone has picked up Dee’s phone from a toilet next door to Target in Chadstone around 5:30pm,’ Mr Windross said in a now-viral Facebook post on Saturday night.

‘Our 11-month-old daughter is currently deteriorating in ICU and is in her last days with us and this phone holds all our memories of her.

‘We understand that you have either found a new phone to use, or you can sell it to make money, but please understand that this means more than money to us.’

The devastated couple said the content is worth ‘life to us’ – as Jay said he would happily offer a cash reward to the thief if they were to return it.

‘No questions asked. No grudge held. We beg you as grieving parents not to wipe the phone. This phone holds the memories of what little life our daughter has had,’ he said.

‘If you want the phone, we’re more than happy to arrange to meet, we’ll copy the photos off the phone and you can keep the phone. What is on the phone is worth more than anything in our life.’
