Jay-Z is reportedly trying to steer Travis Scott away from performing at the Super Bowl, citing the NFL’s continued mistreatment and alleged blackballing of Colin Kaepernick. 

The report comes from sources familiar with the matter, who told Variety that Hova has been trying to get the ‘Sicko Mode’ rapper to back out of performing with Maroon 5 during Super Bowl LIII. 

Jay-Z’s rep have not confirmed the sentiment but it would be of little surprise considering how vocal the 4:44 rapper has been about his criticism towards the NFL.

During a conversation with CNN’s Van Jones in January 2018, the 49-year-old rapper referred to Kaepernick as an ‘iconic figure.’

‘We confuse the idea of having a job with fulfilling your purpose,’ he added, during a segment of ‘The Van Jones Show.’

Following the news that Scott would be joining Maroon 5 at the Super Bowl, rapper Meek Mill also took to his Twitter to voice his criticism for the move. 

‘For what????’ the rapper said on Thursday sharing an article of the announcement. 

Meek added: ‘He don’t need that he on fire already! Stay strong in this s**t!’

The rapper would later clarify that he ‘f**k wit Travis’ and was only voicing his confusion at the move.

The ‘Championships’ rapper has increased his activism and advocacy for prison reform since he was released from Chester State Prison in April. 

Maroon 5 accepted the gig after Rihanna turned it down in support of former NFL player Colin Kaepernick who started the ‘take a knee’ protest over police brutality and racial inequality. 

Scott was announced as an add on recently after the band struggled to find an additional act to join them. 

Amy Schumer has also come out and said she won’t appear in any Superbowl commercials in support of Kaepernick.
