Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb weigh themselves on live TV

Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb bravely weighed themselves on live television on Monday morning, and they were both a bit shocked by the numbers on the scale.

The Today show hosts admitted that they rarely check their weight in their daily lives, but they wanted to know where they were at before they started incorporating intermittent fasting into their diets.

Jenna, who will be turning 38 next week, weighed 171.6 pounds after welcoming her third child, Hal, in August, while Hoda, 55, clocked in at 157.6 pounds.

‘We’re doing it to be healthy,’ Jenna said of intermittent fasting, which involves cycling between periods of eating and fasting.

‘And also to improve our brain health,’ Hoda added.

Neither of them seemed to be excited to get on the scale on national television at the start of the segment. Both of them took off their shoes in the hope of cutting a few pounds off of their final weights.

‘Okay, I haven’t done this in a long time. It’ll be fine, Jenna said as she tried to psyche herself up. ‘It’s like jumping off a cliff.’

Hoda, who had her co-star hold her hand, had to take a moment before they counted down to three and stepped on their individual scales.

‘Whoa!’ Jenna yelled, ‘I weigh 20 pounds more than you.’

‘I don’t think these are right,’ Hoda said when she learned she weighed nearly 158 pounds. ‘Is that true? I’ll do it again. I don’t believe it.’

‘I think it’s true,’ Jenna told her.

For their second time weighing themselves, Hoda had them switch scales to see if the numbers were accurate — which they were.

‘Y’all I probably weight more than my boyfriend in high school did!’ Jenna said of being 171 pounds. ‘This is why I don’t weigh myself.’

‘I think I weigh twice as much as my sister. Like two Barbara’s could fit in me,’ she added. ‘It’s okay.’

Hoda didn’t seem to be too pleased with her weight, which she finally accepted, but that didn’t stop her from eating after their weigh-in.

‘I’m just going to have a bite because I’ve been starving,’ she said.

‘Me too,’ Jenna agreed, ‘but now I don’t even want to eat.’

When the hosts invited Dr. Natalie Azar on stage to talk about intermittent fasting, Jenna insisted that the doctor made a face when she saw her weight.

‘Literally because I can’t believe you guys did that on national TV,’ the doctor explained. ‘I would never have been able to.’

Hoda, meanwhile, was still having a difficult time accepting her current weight.

‘I don’t think these are right because I know I weighed myself two weeks ago, and I haven’t eaten in a day in a half,’ she said.

Jenna admitted that she was also way off when it came to her weight.

‘Y’all know what’s plugged into my Fitbit for real? 130 pounds,’ she told the audience. ‘I weigh 40 more pounds than I tell everyone I do.’

While Jenna was also a bit upset about her weight, Hoda was quick to remind her that she ‘just had a baby.’

After learning their current weight, they seemed eager to start intermittent fasting, which Dr. Azar explained focuses on when you’re eating as opposed to what you are eating.

There are many different ways to fast, but the doctor suggested that anyone who is trying to lose weight should follow the 16:8 plan that involves eating only during an eight-hour window and fasting for the remaining 16 hours.
