Jenna Bush Hager reveals now-husband Henry had to sneak out of the WHITE HOUSE

Former President George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna Bush Hager has revealed that her now-husband, Henry Chase Hager, once had to sneak out of the White House after he secretly spent the night at the start of their relationship.

The Hoda & Jenna host, 40, recalled the hilarious moment while chatting with her co-host Hoda Kotb during the Today show on Thursday morning, revealing that Henry, 44, tried to go undetected from staff while leaving the President’s home after a wild night out with Jenna, but an axe was thrown in his plan when he realized he couldn’t get off of the property because the gate was locked.

Jenna spoke out about the funny moment after Hoda asked if she had any ‘weird stories’ from her time in the White House; the TV personality’s father, now 76, became President in 2001 – when she was 20 – and she admitted that she had ‘a couple’ of awkward incidents in the historic building.

The one that stuck out in her mind occurred when her now-husband, Henry, tried to make a clean getaway from the White House after sleeping over – but was caught red handed by multiple employees.

She explained that the couple had ‘gone out to the bars’ and Henry decided to stay the night because they had ‘reached that level’ of their relationship.

But when Henry, who was working for her father at the time, woke up and realized where he was, he was petrified.

While her parents were away at the time, she explained that he didn’t want any White House staffers to know he slept over so he tried to leave without being seen – but it was unsuccessful.

‘Henry and I met when we were in our 20s, we were very young. At one point, my parents were traveling and I was staying there,’ she recalled.

‘Henry said he woke up and he looked around and he was like, “Ah.” He worked for my dad. I didn’t care, I was like, “Bye.”

‘He was walking as fast he could, there was a man in the elevator who was like, “Good morning.”‘

The now-40-year-old explained that it’s not very easy to leave the White House due to the incredibly tight security; Henry had to ask a guard to open the gate for him, but it was hard for him to get their attention.

‘The guards are looking [at who is coming in, not out], people don’t usually run out,’ she continued.

‘So he rammed on the [gate]. He was running, he had his clothes from the night before. He was pulling on the gate, like “Sir!” Poor guy.

‘Can you imagine waking up and being like, “Where am I? What is this strange room?”‘

While Jenna said she wasn’t sure how her parents were going to feel after hearing the story, she added: ‘I’m almost 41 and we have three children.’

The mother-of-three then remembered another hilarious moment she had at the White House, but this time, it involved her mother, Laura Bush.

She said she caught the former First Lady, now 75, dancing to the pop group The Pointer Sisters alongside all of her ‘girlfriends’ one night.

‘[Me and Henry] came home and my mom and dad had all their best friends from West Texas visiting, it was a Christmas party or something,’ she told Hoda.

‘We were going to bed but all of a sudden we heard The Pointer Sisters blasting from my dad’s office.

‘We went in and my mom and all of her girlfriends were dancing. We were like, “I guess we have to join this, it seems like too much fun.”‘

The Bush twins also spent plenty of time at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue when their grandfather George H.W. Bush was president from 1989 to 1993.

The journalist previously spoke out the early years of her and Henry’s relationship. Back in February 2021, she opened up about their first date, and she admitted it was the ‘worst’ date she ever had – because Henry accidentally got into a fender bender with the Secret Service.

‘His car ran out of gas and went backwards and hit the Secret Service,’ she said on the Today show while discussing the mishap. ‘He started to go up the hill and then boop, crash. I was laughing, but he was horrified.’
