They have such good chemistry on-screen because they are real life lovers off-screen. 

And Jenna Coleman says her boyfriend and co-star Tom Hughes is always a consummate professional when they work together. 

The pair, both aged 32, began dating in 2016, when they met on the set of the British drama Victoria.

In the series, Jenna plays a young Queen Victoria while Tom Hughes plays Prince Albert.

‘What’s incredible about him is he’s always completely authentic when he comes to set. There’s never a moment when I don’t see Prince Albert,’ she tells The Weekend Australian. 

The English star adds that she is fortunate that she has ‘good actors to work opposite’ including her beau.

‘You can be completely transported because when you look at them you actually believe everything they’re saying to you,’ she adds.  

Their romance almost never happened, as Jenna has revealed she turned down the role of the iconic monarch twice before finally accepting the part.

Speaking to Radio Times, the actress said of the near-miss: ‘I had just finished doing nearly four years on Doctor Who and I didn’t want to do another long TV project.

‘I wanted to do lots of different things, but now I’m doing Victoria, I find her quite addictive.’ 

Jenna is next appearing on new BBC drama The Cry, which will debut in Australia on February 3 on ABC-TV.

The harrowing psychological thriller will feature her in the role of Joanna, a mother whose baby suddenly goes missing from a hire car on the roadside as she and her husband travel across Australia.
