Jeremy Kyle Show ‘suicide’ guest Steve Dymond buried at pauper’s funeral today

The construction worker who took his own life days after failing a lie detector test on the Jeremy Kyle Show was buried today as his ex-fiancée called for the programme to return to TV. 

Steve Dymond, 63, was laid to rest at Kingston Cemetery in Portsmouth where he lived this morning. His on-off fiancée Jane Callaghan cried throughout the brief service and placed a single red rose on his coffin.

Only four other people attended the funeral, which was arranged by an environmental health officer from the council as nobody else stepped forward to help after Mr Dymond cut ties with his family before his death. 

He was found dead in his rented flat in the city on May 9 by his landlady Michelle Thaxter and her son Sam Kendall.

Mr Dymond’s funeral comes just days after his on-off fiancée Jane Callaghan encouraged her Facebook friends to join her in calling for the ITV chat show to return to TV

Ten days before, he had failed a lie detector test on the ITV chat show which he had hoped would prove he had not cheated on his on-off fiancée Jane Callaghan.

The Jeremy Kyle Show has since been axed amid concerns about their duty of care for guests. 

Six undertakers carried his coffin to the grave, before Canon Bob White presided over the funeral, addressing the service for one minute. 

Ms Callaghan along with her two daughters, and two others, were in attendance. 

She previously told the Sunday Mirror that she did not believe the popular daytime programme contributed towards his fatal overdose, and has called for it to be brought back on air.

Last week, she even encouraged her Facebook friends to change their profile pictures in support of the show which has broadcast more than 3,000 episodes since it began in 2005.

Mr Dymond left letters and cards addressed to his on-off fiancée Jane Callaghan and his estranged son Carol Woolley – none of which referred to the lie detector test, Ms Callaghan has claimed.  

She said last week she would attend the funeral with her daughter, which was set to have no readings or music.

Ms Callaghan told the Mirror: ‘I just got a phone call from the council to say they had arranged the funeral themselves because no one else had come forward.

‘I will go with my daughter because I don’t want to regret it later but I still have very mixed feelings about it.

‘I’m still all over the place. I was told there’s only a couple of people who asked to be kept informed of the funeral. It’s sad it has ended like this.’
