Retired football great Jerry Rice decided to make the most of an already special night when he got down on one knee and asked his girlfriend to be his wife.

Rice took the stage at the DeBartolo Family Foundation all star charity gala before turning to his girlfriend of 10 years Latisha Pelayo and getting down on one knee, TMZ reported.

The 55-year-old then uttered the four words: ‘Will you marry me?’

With just a simple, yet emotional, head nod, the woman he has been dating since 2008 became the woman he would spend the rest of his life with.

And if the retired NFL player and ‘Dacing with the Stars’ runner-up was at all nervous, he didn’t let a flicker of that emotion cross his face, appearing cool, calm and collected as he bent down to the ground with a ring in his hand.

Just hours before the proposal, Rice posted a photo of he and Pelayo headed to the event with the caption: 'Pursue what catches your heart, not what catches your eye'

The proposal took place on Saturday night at the Waterside Mariott Hotel in Tampa, Florida.

And after she said yes, the audience at the event went wild with cheers.

Just hours before the proposal, Rice posted a photo of he and Pelayo headed to the event with the caption: ‘Pursue what catches your heart, not what catches your eye.’

This will be Rice’s second marriage. He was previously married to Jacqueline Mitchell from 1987 until they were formally divorced in 2009.
