Jessica Chastain taking on role of investigator infiltrating online hate groups in new role in Apple Limited Series The Savant

Oscar-winner Jessica Chastain, 46, is stepping into the role of a top secret investigator known as the Savant for a new limited series from Apple.

The Savant – which is also the name of the series – ‘infiltrates online hate groups to take down the most violent men in the country,’ per Deadline.

The eight-episode series is based is based on a true story by Andrea Stanley that was published in Cosmopolitan in 2019. Stanley will consult on the series which is being produced by Anatomy of a Scandal’s co-creator Melissa James Gibson.

‘An elite investigator who tracks angry men online, she’s known to some in her field as the Savant because of her uncanny ability to suss out when, exactly, hate speech will morph into violent action,’ Stanley wrote.

Plenty of articles have been written about thwarted attempts at mass killings and attempted mass destruction and credited the save to a ‘tip’ or said authorities were ‘alerted’ or details were ‘uncovered.’ This is the work of the Savant.

The Savant is, in essence, a profiler, which the FBI and other law enforcement agencies have used for decades — and about which plenty of television shows have been made already.

Chastain’s character tracks the young men of the alt-right who hate women in an effort to apprehend them before they commit murder.

Stanley added, ‘In the age of internet radicalization, it’s more important than ever to determine who is actively plotting mass killings versus just fetishizing them online,’ and the Savant is the best at determining the difference.

Last month, The Eyes of Tammy Faye star was one of the only people wearing a mask in a crowd of Oscars attendees that was clearly seen in a clip where host Jimmy Kimmel asked her a question as part of a comedy segment.

The Ava star looked surprised as the camera panned towards her before taking off her black mask – matching her plunging rhinestoned gown with a black velvet train – to respond.

The late night talk show host, 55, asked about her experience working with her costar Matt Damon in 2015 film The Martian – jokingly reigniting his fake feud with the actor.

Fans quickly took to social media to praise the Molly’s Game actress for remaining conscious of the still-present COVID-19 pandemic.
