Jessica Ennis-Hill gives birth to her second child

Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill has announced the birth of her ‘beautiful’ daughter with a touching family photo on social media.

The Olympic gold medalist, 31, gave birth on Saturday and shared a snap of her little bundle of joy holding hands with three-year-old son, Reggie.

Ennis-Hill, who retired from athletics in 2016, said daughter Olivia was already the apple of the family’s eye.

She gushed: ‘Reggie meeting his beautiful baby sister Olivia Ennis-Hill, she was born Saturday night. We are all so in love with her.’

Olivia is the second child of Ennis-Hill and her husband of four years Andy, with Reggie born in July 2014.

The heptathlete, who won an Olympic gold at London 2012, returned to the track the following year and won World Championship gold in Beijing.

However, she failed to defend her Olympic title in 2016, picking up a silver medal at the Rio games.

Speaking last year, Ennis-Hill said that being a mother ensured that taking to the track was ‘special’ for different reasons.

She said: ‘Now that I have Reggie and knowing that he’s at home watching and hopefully really proud, and that he can look back at this time, makes it really special.’

Reflecting on her retirement, the Sheffield-born sportswoman, who was made a Dame in the New Years Honours List, claimed financial reasons would never be her motivation for competing again.

She said: ‘I’m really comfortable in life and I want to have time to enjoy it.

‘I want to spend time with Reggie and my future kids. I want to enjoy things and be passionate about what I do. I don’t want to be overloaded.’
