Jessica McNamee claims she’s been harassed in Hollywood

Australian actress Jessica McNamee has added her name to the growing list of women speaking out against sexual harassment in Hollywood.

The former Packed to the Rafters star revealed she had been the victim of workplace harassment while appearing at the Australians in Film awards in Los Angeles this week.

It comes as dozens of women in the film industry have accused producer Harvey Weinstein of sexually harassing and assaulting them.

While McNamee did not go into detail about the harassment she endured, she called the experience ‘very unpleasant’.

However, she stated that it was a relief to finally see the issue be brought to light.

‘Obviously it’s horrific that there is sexual abuse and harassment in the workplace, it has been going on for decades, for generations if you will,’ she told Nine News.

‘I’m not surprised that it has finally all come out… I’ve certainly been a victim myself of harassment in the workplace.’

McNamee added that she was ‘amazed’ to see women coming together to support one another.

‘It’s crazy, but it’s not that crazy that all of these stories have come out and I think it is about time,’ she said.

Weinstein has been accused of sexual harassment or abuse, including by several top actresses including Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie.

Australian actresses Natalie Mendoza and Zoe Brock are among those who have made claims against Weinstein.

Meanwhile, McNamee’s latest role saw her play Australian tennis icon Margaret Court in Battle of the Sexes alongside Steve Carell and Emma Stone.

She originally rose to fame starring on Home and Away and Packed to the Rafters, before landing roles in American films such as The Vow and the remake of 1970s television series CHIPS.
