Jessica Mulroney lashes out at ‘racist’ Meghan Markle critics

Meghan Markle’s best friend Jessica Mulroney has lashed out at those who have branded the royal couple hypocrites for their recent private jet jaunts by slamming the critics as ‘racist bullies’.

Mulroney took to Instagram on Tuesday to say the Duchess of Sussex had been unfairly criticized and suggested that race was a factor.

‘When someone faces unfair criticism, you call it out. When that person is your friend and your family, you call those critics what they truly are. Shame on you, you racist bullies,’ Mulroney wrote.

She added: ‘Three years of underserved hate and abuse. It’s enough.’

Mulroney had earlier shared a tweet by British actress Jameela Jamil that accused people of bullying Meghan because of her race.

Jamil, who stars in The Good Place and was among the 15 women to feature on Meghan’s recent British Vogue cover, tweeted that people were targeting Prince Harry’s wife ‘because she is black’.

‘Ugh. Dear England and English press, just say you hate her because she’s black, and him for marrying a black woman and be done with it God dammit. Your bullying is so embarrassing and obvious. You’ve all lost your marbles. It’s 2019. Grow up,’ Jamil tweeted.

‘And ALSO, it’s not safe for us to be on the same planes as royals or presidents you absolute muppets. They are prime targets for kidnap and sometimes assassination. It’s in the interest of us civilians to not be endangered by proximity to people in such powerful positions.’

Harry and Meghan, who have been vocal on environmental issues, have recently been slammed after it emerged they had flown on private jets four times in 11 days this month.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex traveled with their infant son Archie to Ibiza to celebrate Meghan’s birthday and then flew to Nice last week for a brief vacation at Sir Elton John’s private villa.

Royal experts have argued that the public don’t want to be lectured on climate change by the couple if they can’t follow their own advice.

British MPs have also said the trips don’t fit with their public image they project of themselves being eco-warriors.

Sir Elton John was among those to leap to the couple’s defense.

He said he had provided the family with a private flight to ‘maintain a high level of much-needed protection’.

Sir Elton wrote on social media that he had made sure the flight was carbon neutral by making the ‘appropriate contribution’ to a carbon footprint fund.

‘I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,’ he said.

‘Prince Harry’s mother, Diana Princess Of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death.

‘After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home.

‘To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.

‘To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint.

‘I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis. Elton.’

Harry and Meghan generated an estimated seven times the emissions per person compared to a commercial flight when flying home from Nice.

The trip to Nice came shortly after Harry and Meghan had returned by private jet to the UK from Ibiza after a six-night break on the Spanish island to mark the Duchess’s 38th birthday.

Ellen DeGeneres has since come out in support of the royal couple, saying they are ‘only trying to make the world better’.

She said her and her wife Portia de Rossi met the couple on a trip to England to ‘talk about their work on wildlife conservation’ and said they were very impressed.

‘Portia and I met Prince Harry and Meghan in England to talk about their work on wildlife conservation,’ she posted on Instagram.

‘They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people. Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better.’

The Duke and Duchess sparked fury again among some of their followers on Instagram by posting a quote on Monday from Archbishop Desmond Tutu on about doing ‘your little bit of good’.

‘Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world,’ the quote read.

Kensington Palace has so far declined to comment on Harry and Meghan’s trips.
