Jilted mother’s three-month harassment campaign against ex

Laura Buckley was told to stay away from her ex after a three-month stalking campaign that saw her make false claims to his new partner

A mother-of-five waged a three-month stalking campaign against her ex-boyfriend after she discovered he had a new partner while trying to retrieve a pair of ‘trophy’ tights.

Laura Buckley called Mark Heitzmann up to 20 times a day and spent hours loitering outside his home in Stretford, Greater Manchester after their four-year relationship came to an end.

She told his new girlfriend he was addicted to pornography and, even after he changed his phone number, found his new contact details and continued to message him.

She also stood outside his house shouting ‘personal intimacies’ about their relationship within earshot of his neighbours and adding: ‘I don’t care about your neighbours – I’m going to make lots of noise.’

Manchester Magistrates Court heard Buckley’s campaign of harassment started after she tried to retrieve some of her tights from him.

Her lawyer, Andrew Mawson said: ‘She never intended to speak to the complainant’s girlfriend, she just happened to answer his mobile phone. She wanted to tell this girl some home truths about the complainant.

‘She was asking for her property back. This property consisted of stockings and tights which she tells me, he kept as a trophy of their relationship together.

‘She doesn’t believe he had thrown them away. She has even contacted the police herself to get these back, but has had no cooperation from them.’

But Buckley admitted harassment and sobbed in the dock as she was banned from contacting Mr Heitzmann for three years under the terms of a restraining order.

Prosecutor Joanne Moore said: ‘The defendant attended outside the victim’s house and was said to be shouting for 30 minutes about the private intimacies of their relationship. He explained to her that he wanted no contact.

‘The complainant said she struggled to accept the break-up and in October when he got into a new relationship, her behaviour became more erratic. She called his phone and his partner answered.

‘She told his partner what caused them to break up. She told her private and intimate things about him. She told her he was addicted to porn and alcohol. That led to the break up of that relationship.

‘He began receiving multiple calls per day. She kept asking him for her property back… He was also receiving emails from her. It got to the point where he was receiving 20 calls a day from her.

‘The complainant recalls seeing her outside his house for hours watching him. She would constantly use the intercom between the flats and message him and his neighbours giving them verbal abuse.’

Buckley was also ordered to complete a 12 month community order and pay £220 costs.
