Jim Jefferies, 44, reveals why he decided to quit booze for good

Australian comedian Jim Jefferies, 44, reveals secret battle with psoriatic arthritis and admits he ‘wishes he took better care of his body’ in his twenties

He’s the popular Australian comic who garnered somewhat of a ‘bad boy’ reputation thanks to his stand-up shows over the years.

But on Sunday, Jim Jefferies admitted he’s given his lifestyle a complete overhaul now he’s getting older – including giving up booze forever and enjoying a vegan menu thanks to his stunning wife Tasie Lawrence, 30.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the 44-year-old admitted he ‘wishes he’d taken better care’ of his body in his twenties, but is now doing what he can to be healthy.

‘I don’t drink any longer,’ the Los Angeles based star said. ‘I actually had the early onset of psoriatic arthritis – I was waking up and my hands were clawed. Then I gave up the booze. It’s not fixed, but it’s 90 per cent better after I did that.’

Psoriatic arthritis is condition that combines the swollen, sore joints of arthritis with the skin disease psoriasis.

Studies have suggested that alcohol might be a factor in raising the risk of getting the condition, hence Jim’s decision to cut it out of his diet completely.

Jim sweetly added that he thinks he’s going to live longer thanks to his wife Tasie, adding: ‘I will say this – since marrying my wife I think I’ll live another 10 years because she’s vegan and I eat whatever food she cooks for herself.’

The comic said that while he is changing some parts of his lifestyle, he hasn’t done anything too strenuous – and often finds it hard to get out of bed to exercise.

While he won’t be bashing out hundreds of sit-ups every day, he’s trying to move more because ‘if you don’t move, you won’t move.’

And while he eats well these days, there’s one food he can’t give up – even if it’s not particularly healthy.

‘I’ll be happy to take a few years off my life if I keep getting to eat pasta,’ he added.
