The night kicked off with late night personality Jimmy Kimmel, who was back hosting for the second year in a row taking swings at disgraced move mogul Harvey Weinstein, President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

‘If we can work together to stop sexual harassment in the workplace. If we can do that, women will only have to deal with that every other place they go,’ he continued, joking.

His zingers took a hit out at Vice President Pence, who is known for his anti-gay views about the coming-of-age drama ‘Call Me by Your Name’ about the relationship between a 17-year-old boy living in Italy, played by Timothée Chalamet, and his father’s American assistant, played by Armie Hammer.

‘We don’t make films like ‘Call Me by Your Name’ to make money. We make them to upset Mike Pence,’ Kimmel said.

The film is a coming-age of drama about the relationship between a 17-year-old boy living in Italy, played by Timothée Chalamet, and his father’s American assistant, played by Armie Hammer.

Addressing first-time nominee, ‘Get Out’ director Jordan Peele, Kimmel said, “None other than President Trump called ‘Get Out’ the best 3/4 of a movie he had seen this year.’

Kimmel previously confirmed there would be no jokes about the #MeToo at this year’s show.

Kimmel joked about the many men in Hollywood accused of sexual misconduct since Harvey Weinstein, by joking about the Oscar statue: 'He keeps his hands where you can see them and most importantly no penis'

Actors and actresses in snazzy tuxedos and beautiful evening gowns arrived on the red carpet for the 90th Academy Awards kicked off on Sunday afternoon.

Several of Hollywood’s female stars glittered in metallic dresses as they stepped onto the red carpet.

Channeling her inner bombshell, Jennifer Lawrence stepped onto the runway outside the Dolby Theater in a stunning gilded gown, kicking off a dazzling metallic dress trend.

Fellow movie stars Sandra Bullock, Lupita Nyong’o and Gal Gadot also all arrived in gold and silver dresses, making sure they stood out at this year’s awards show.

Many celebrities showed their support voiced their support for Time’s Up and the #metoo movement by wearing button. Elisabeth Moss from ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ was seen wearing a small Time’s Up button on the belt of her dress.

Jane Fonda, Patrick Stewart and wife Sunny Ozell, and Sam Rockwell were a few of the stars also seen sporting the button.

Celebrities have registered their support for Time’s Up against sexual harassment campaign and the fight to end gun violence at various awards events in the last few months. At the Golden Globes in January, several stars wore black while others carried white roses.

Her ‘I, Tonya’ co-star Allison Janney looked incredible in her low-cut red gown featuring draped sleeves. The actress donned a diamond choker with a matching ring and bracelets; she carried a coordinating clutch.

Jennifer Garner made a statement on the red carpet in her electric blue dress. The 45-year-old movie star showed off her sculpted arms in her ruched number, complete with a cap and a form-fitting torso.

Nicole Kidman also chose blue, but opted for a darker version; she sported a strapless version with a textured midsection and a thigh-slit.

Several E! News hosts made their appearances on the red carpet as well including Kristin Cavallari, Giuliana Rancic, Maria Menounos and Ryan Seacrest made their appearances on the red carpet.

E! announced it was planning to run a delay on its coverage of the red carpet surrounding allegations of sexual misconduct against host Seacrest.

The network dismissed the news of the 30-second tape delay as part of its standard practice.

‘As always, we tape multiple sources of content simultaneously to deliver the best possible show, and there are often brief delays between interviews,’ an E! spokesperson told Variety.

Seacrest, 43, has been embroiled in scandal ever since he was accused of sexual harassment by his ex-stylist, Suzie Hardy.

But while the red carpet looked as glitzy as ever, beneath the surface the Oscars has changed to reflect a changed Hollywood.

And that was shown in this year’s most recognized films – with the Academy Awards showering outsiders, on screen and off, with milestone-setting nominations that celebrated Guillermo del Toro’s full-hearted ode to outcasts The Shape of Water, embraced first-time filmmakers like Greta Gerwig and Jordan Peele, and made Mudbound director of photography Rachel Morrison the first woman ever nominated for best cinematography.

With a diverse selection of nominations that spanned young and old, studio blockbusters and passion-fueled indies, the 90th annual Academy Awards gave many who have long been shunned by the movie business – women directors, transgender filmmakers, minority actors, even Netflix – something to cheer about.

Leading all nominees with 13 nods, including Best Picture, is ‘The Shape of Water’, by veteran Mexican filmmaker del Toro, whose Cold War-era fantasy is about a mute office cleaner (Sally Hawkins) who falls in love with an amphibious creature.

But the nominations also carried forward some of the ongoing reckoning of the #MeToo movement that has been felt especially acutely in Hollywood, where male filmmakers outnumber women by a ratio of approximately 12-to-1.

Gerwig, the writer-director of the nuanced coming-of-age tale ‘Lady Bird’, is just the fifth woman nominated for best director, following Lina Wertmuller, Jane Campion, Sofia Coppola and Kathryn Bigelow, the sole woman to win, for ‘The Hurt Locker’.

Dame Helen Mirren, Emily Blunt, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman will be among the presenters, along with Dave Chappelle, Eugenio Derbez, Ansel Elgort, Jane Fonda, Jodie Foster, Eiza Gonzalez, Ashley Judd, Matthew McConaughey, Rita Moreno, Lupita Nyong’o and Christopher Walken.

Judd and Nyong’o are among the high-profile actresses who have accused disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment.

It is customary for the previous winners to present to the new winner at the subsequent ceremony.

However, the last winner of the best actor award, Casey Affleck, did not attend attending the ceremony this year.

The ‘Manchester By The Sea’ star would have been expected to present the best actress award, according to the show’s tradition, but in January he withdrew from the hosting role.

In 2010, Affleck was sued by two women for alleged sexual harassment before the lawsuits were settled out of court.

He has vehemently denied the sexual harassment claims which were alleged to have happened during the making of the film I’m Still Here.

The nominations for the Oscars are led by Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape Of Water, which has 13 nods, while Dunkirk, directed by Christopher Nolan, has eight.
