Jindabyne, NSW Snowy Mountains: Skier, 23, lost in the high country

Grave fears for cross country skier, 23, who hasn’t been seen in 48 hours after vanishing in the high country in -2C temperatures

  • Experienced skier has spent two nights lost in the snow in freezing conditions 
  • The 23-year-old last made contact with his family from Jindabyne on Saturday
  • Police, SES, rangers have launched a search  of the Snowy Mountains for him 

A cross-country skier missing in freezing conditions the NSW Snowy Mountains has spent two nights lost.

Police say the 23-year-old back-country enthusiast last made contact with family from Jindabyne around 10am on Saturday, telling them he was going skiing.

The man is described as an experienced skier who is well equipped for the conditions, with temperatures on Monday to range from minus two degrees to three degrees.

Police resumed the search for him on Monday morning with help from the State Emergency Service as well as officers from the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

The experienced cross country skier hasn’t been heard from since making contact with his family on Saturday at about 10am
