JK Rowling visits a museum of magic while she cruises on a £24million superyacht

JK Rowling has been pictured visiting a museum of magic while holidaying on a £24million superyacht around Iceland.

The Harry Potter author, 55, has been travelling aboard the 200ft vessel with her husband Neil, 49, and their daughter Mackenzie, 15, on Sunday.

During their stay, the family stayed close to their wizarding roots as they visited The Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft, also known as, the Strandagaldur, according to The Sun.

Rowling was seen wearing a khaki Canada Goose parka jacket which she teamed with an oversized blue roll-neck jumper and jeans for the outing.

The family are travelling around the Nordic island on the mega-yacht, named Calypso, which costs around £31,000 a week to rent and boats six luxury quarters and a master suite.

The group sailed to Hólmavík, a village on the western coast, in Calypso, previously owned by the Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, after taking a private jet to Reykjavik, a source revealed.

The museum, first opened in 2000, contains special exhibitions including Nábrók, also known as necropants, which are made from the skin of a dead man.

A replica of the trousers are on display in the museum and are believed in Icelandic witchcraft to be capable of producing an unlimited supply of money.

The writer celebrated her 55th birthday earlier this month on the same day as her iconic character Harry Potter’s 40th.

At the same time, fans honoured Harry Potter on what would have been his 40th birthday, as the main character of her famous books was born on July 31 1980.

In the movies the wizard is played by Daniel Radcliffe, who is just 31 in real life, and the first book The Philosopher’s Stone was released in 1997.

It comes after Rowling found herself embroiled in controversy after making comments about transgender people in June.

The author was hit by what she described as ‘relentless attacks’ after she took issue with an online article about ‘people who menstruate’.

She tweeted to her 14.5m followers: ‘I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?’

Grateful: Thanking fans, she wrote: 'To all the lovely people who've wished me happy birthday, thank you so much and look at my surprise birthday cake!'

The acclaimed novelist then penned a deeply personal essay to address the controversy, revealing she was sexually assaulted in her 20s and saying she still feels the scars of ‘domestic violence’ in her first marriage.

Her remarks sparked backlash from a range of stars including Daniel, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and Eddie Redmayne, who stars in her Fantastic Beasts films.

In response to her remarks, Daniel wrote a heartfelt blog post for The Trevor Project, a non-profit devoted to suicide prevention among LGBTQ+ youth.

He said: ‘Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.’

Four authors resigned from Rowling’s literary agency after claiming the company refused to publish a statement in support of transgender rights while a charity which supports transgender children has urged Rowling to meet some of the young people it works with.
