It was reported that the rights to a BBC Two documentary centered on Collins had been picked up by Abacus Media Rights earlier this year.

The feature is set to be narrated by the performer herself and will tell her life story from her own point of view.

BBC Arts’ Mark Bell previously gave a statement to Variety where he expressed that the performer’s legacy was notably enduring.

‘National treasures don’t come more glamorous than Dame Joan Collins and after seven decades of stardom her shine remains undimmed,’ he said.

He added that the actress’ ‘story too is priceless; this film will be an account of the ups and downs of an entertainment career like no other – candid, revelatory and occasionally hilarious.’

AMR’s managing director, Jonathan Ford, also expressed that the feature would showcase the performer’s experience in the most honest way possible.

‘This will be the definitive story of Dame Joan Collins told in her own words and her own way, delivering a fascinating insight into her incredible life and remarkable career which has spanned more than 70 years,’ he said.

It was previously reported by The Guardian that the actress had given the production team unprecedented access to her home videos that had been shot over the past several decades.

Director Clare Beavan spoke to the media outlet and expressed that the performer’s fans would see a side of her that was previously kept from the public.

She noted that the actress’ followers would ‘really get a sense of her. I can’t say it’s … completely natural, because you never know with Joan. But you definitely get her off-camera.’

The filmmaker then noted that viewers would likely see their spirits uplifted after watching the project.

‘It’s a post-Covid feel-good film because of Joan Collins’s life, which is one hell of a giddy ride,’ she stated.

The forthcoming documentary currently does not have a scheduled release date as of yet.
