Laporta is confident the six-time Ballon d’Or winner will commit his future to the club and has admitted that new signing Aguero is trying to convince his friend to stay.

The president told La Vanguardia: ‘I would like Messi to tell us ‘yes’ as soon as possible. He would help us in every way.

‘Aguero is helping. He is telling him every day to stay.’

Laporta also went on to say that he talks to Messi ‘every other day’ before adding: ‘He is excited and I am grateful to him for the desire he is showing to stay.’

There is not long left to go on Messi’s contract which is set to expire on June 30.

The Argentinian has been linked with both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain – though no discussions have taken place.

Messi is currently away on international duty with Argentina at the Copa America, and is in no rush to make a decision on his future.

Aguero is with Messi on duty for his country, after he was revealed as a new Barcelona signing last month.

Barcelona have also completed the signings of Aguero’s former Manchester City teammate Eric Garcia, Emerson Royal and Memphis Depay.

Laportas hopes to make ‘three or four more signings’ this summer, though has conceded that the financial situation is ‘worse than expected’ after taking the presidential reins for a second time earlier this year.
