Joanna Gaines says her husband Chip’s long hair has ‘grown’ on her

He has been sporting to-the-shoulder locks lately.

And Chip Gaines confessed on the Today show this week that the reaction to his new hairdo has been extremely polarized.

Chip, 46, was being interviewed with his wife Joanna, 43, with whom he shot to fame on the house-flipping show Fixer Upper.

He compared the response to his hairdo with ‘the rest of the country’ saying that ‘nobody can agree on anything. You’re either in this camp or you’re in this camp.’

Chip added: ‘Well, Twitter is very similar in that regard with my hair. It’s either you love this or you…’ he trailed off letting his wife finish: ‘…hate it.’

Joanna announced that he would be lopping off the long locks soon and Chip noted that the whole idea of growing his hair out was to eventually give it to charity.

However Joanna also confessed: ‘It’s grown on me’ and added: ‘I think I’m going to miss it for sure’ when he finally gets rid of it.

Chip, who had his head shaved bald for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in 2017, revealed his new look was a result of the coronavirus lockdowns.

‘The pandemic hit and we just cut that out of our typical routine, probably like most people, and so after it got a little longer and a little longer, I just was like: “You know what, I’m going to go for it. I’m going to grow this out,”‘ dished the heartthrob.

‘I like to continue to bring in bucket lister-type situations into my life and I was like, hey, when I die I’m going to say: “You remember that season that I had that long hair?” And when I’m bald as a bat here in a couple of months after we shave it — literally, razor-blade bald – then I’ll say I’ve never been bald before either.’

Chip and Joanna have been married since 2003 and share five children – Drake, 16, Ella, 14, Duke, 13, Emmie, 11, and Crew, three.

Joanna revealed on the Today show that she had come up with a tip to minimize the time that her children spend on the phone.

She had become fed up of the way that her children had begun to ‘almost look like robots’ because of the way ‘all of us’ were constantly checking their devices.

As a result she set up a single ‘little station where everyone charges their phone’ as part of establishing a ‘house rule when you’re at home that all the phones go on one spot so if you wanna check a text, if you wanna check an email, you go to that spot but it’s not on your body. So it’s like no phones on body, that’s the rule at home.’

The reality TV superstar pointed out that her children are ‘developing, they’re growing, and as they’re growing at 14, 15, 16, I don’t want [being on the phone all the time] to be part of who they become.’

Although he and his wife became celebrities on HGTV they have left that channel in order to launch their own new Magnolia Network.

Chip revealed to Oprah Winfrey in an interview this March that he ‘lost a part of myself’ because of the fame he achieved through Fixer Upper.

However he said Joanna handled the situation better as she is ‘so incredibly wise, so incredibly grounded’ and stardom was ‘no big deal’ for her.

After Fixer Upper ended in 2018 they took a year off during which ‘Jo and I were able to kind of hunker down and really kind of try to unpack what it was about fame that seemed so incompatible with my personality.’
