Joe Biden calls for Donald Trump to ‘step out of his own bunker’

Former Vice President Joe Biden hammered President Trump for having a bunker mentality during public remarks Friday, after the president confirmed he went to the secure facility deep below the White House during protests last week.    

‘It’s time for him to step out of his own bunker and look at the consequences of his words and his actions,’ Biden said, slamming the president during remarks at a historically black university in Dover, Delaware.

‘Let’s be clear. A president who takes no responsibility for costing millions and millions of Americans their jobs, deserves no credit when a fraction return,’ said Biden, who also blasted Trump for ‘spiking the ball’ with the release of a monthly jobs report Friday showing an unexpected drop in unemployment. 

 He also teed off on Trump for an odd comment Trump made in the White House Rose Garden earlier Friday, then he said George Floyd was ‘looking down’ saying ‘this is a great day.’

Floyd died while being arrested in Minneapolis with a police officer’s knee on his neck, setting off nationwide and global protests.  

‘Toward the end of his remarks President Trump said he hopes that quote George Floyd is looking down and seeing his as a great day for our country,’ Biden said at Delaware State University, having ventured out of his own home in Wilmington for the event.

The president also repeated his call to ‘dominate the streets’

‘He was speaking of a man who was brutally killed by an act of needless violence and by a larger tide of injustice that has metastasized on this president’s watch – as he’s moved to split us based on race, religion and ethnicity.’

‘George Floyd’s last words– ‘I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe’ – have echoed all across this nation, quite frankly around the world,’ Biden said.

‘For the president to try to put any other words in the mouth of George Floyd, I frankly think is despicable,’ Biden continued.  ‘And the fact that he did so on the day that black unemployment rose, Hispanic unemployment rose, black youth unemployment skyrocketed, tells you everything you need to know about this man and what he really cares about.’

Biden repeatedly slammed Trump’s economic message, after Trump boasted that ‘the numbers are great and this leads us onto a long period of growth,’ and claimed, ‘We’ll go back to having the greatest economy in the world.’

Donald Trump still doesn’t get it,’ countered Biden. 

‘He’s out there spiking the ball completely oblivious to the tens of millions of people who are facing the greatest struggle of their lives. These folks aren’t feeling any less pain today than they were yesterday,’ he said. 

He also accused Trump of deliberately stoking divisions.

”He was speaking of a man who was brutally killed by an act of needless violence and by a larger tide of injustice that has metastasized on this president’s watch – as he’s moved to split us based on race, religion and ethnicity.’  Biden said.

The clash comes as the two men are set to square off in November over the economy and Trump’s response to the coronavirus. Trump again claimed as many as 2.5 million U.S. deaths may have occurred if it weren’t for his actions. Biden cited a study that about 50,000 U.S. lives might have been saved if the U.S. instituted a lockdown a week earlier. 

Te current U.S. death count stands at about 110,000. 

Trump this  week said he was only conducting an ‘inspection’ of the bunker, following reports that Secret Service rushed him there amid angry street protests outside the White House.

Authorities have since surrounded the White House with tall steel fencing.
