Hollywood is turning to support Joe Biden ahead of his Democratic debate tomorrow, claims top Tinseltown donor

  • ‘This isn’t Democrats Got Talent but it kind of is’ the executive said, adding that ‘people are watching to see who stands out and who they’ll be writing checks to’
  • Another Hollywood donor said: ‘Warren has a great advantage being on the first night. She can turn this into her town hall and pressure Biden and Bernie’

Joe Biden might be the headline event at the Democratic Debates in Miami, but Elizabeth Warren is one to watch, a top Hollywood donor has said.

Discussing the two-night debate, the influential donor jibed that the debates are the former VP’s to lose, Warren’s to win – and ‘everybody else is to try to get noticed.’

‘This isn’t Democrats Got Talent, but it kind of is,’ the executive told Deadline, adding ‘people are watching to see who stands out and who they will be writing checks to.’

Another Hollywood donor said: ‘Warren has a great advantage being on the first night. She can turn this into her town hall and pressure Biden, Bernie and Buttigieg to have to respond to her on Thursday.’

Warren, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, Sen. Cory Booker, Beto O’Rourke and six other candidates began the hustings this evening, stood behind podiums in Florida to answer a range of questions ranging from the economy to immigration to Trump.

All the runners agreed to 60 second slots to answer questions, 30 seconds to follow up and then closing remarks in the final half hour.

Warren was  the top polling Democrat among her group which featured the likes of de Blasio and O’Rourke, on Wednesday night.

But according to the Hollywood figure, some Dems are already out of the race before its even really begun.

‘Beto and Mayor Pete peaked early,’ a producer told Deadline, the publication reported. ‘There was an attraction to their newness, but what the base out here need to know is can you beat Trump and are you ready to be President on Day One?

‘Under that criteria, Joe has the deepest support, and a lot more people waiting to step forward for him if he does well on Night 2.’

The debate marked a major step forward in the young 2020 presidential campaign as Democrats seek to break out from the crowded field. The party is straining to elevate a candidate who can take on Trump next year.

Biden, who will appear in a second debate featuring another 10 candidates Thursday night, was not mentioned during Wednesday’s faceoff, a civil debate with moments of modest policy clashes and few instances of Democrat-on-Democrat confrontation.

On immigration, the candidates pointed to the searing photos of a drowned Salvadoran father and his toddler daughter at the Rio Grande and blamed Trump and his policies on migrants crossing into America illegally.

Former Obama administration housing chief Julian Castro said, ‘Watching that image of Oscar and his daughter Valeria was heartbreaking. It should also piss us all off.’
