Joe Hart is on the shortlist at French Champions League club Lille should they sell current No 1 Mike Maignan.

Hart, 32, has been told by Burnley he can leave on a free in order to reduce the wage bill at Turf Moor with Nick Pope and Tom Heaton both fit for next season.

The former England goalkeeper, who has also been linked with Stoke, would be open to a move abroad to revive a career that has stalled in recent times.

Pep Guardiola ditched him at Manchester City soon after his arrival in 2016 and after a season-long loan with Torino, moves to West Ham and Burnley haven’t worked out.

Lille have qualified automatically for the group stages of the Champions League having finished second in the French League last season behind PSG.

Their current 23-year-old ‘keeper Maignan has been heavily linked with a move and Manchester United are understood to be among the clubs interested.

Lille have placed a £25million price tag on Maignan who kept 15 clean sheets last season and got into the French squad and have started looking for potential replacements, with Hart’s experience considered valuable as they try to succeed on the European stage.

Hart joined Burnley in a £4million deal last summer when manager Sean Dyche was experiencing an injury crisis. But he lost his place to Heaton after a 5-1 defeat against Everton on Boxing Day.

The most successful English goalkeeper since his idol David Seaman, Hart won two Premier League titles and an FA Cup with City and has 75 England caps, playing in two European Championships and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
