A 23-year-old man planned an elaborate proposal for his girlfriend by organising a choreographed flash mob before getting down on one knee.

Joe Tomlin, from Western Australia, surprised his girlfriend Monica Bagley, 22, with an unforgettable proposal when the pair were enjoying a recent holiday in Europe.

The couple stood among the crowd as they watched a ballerina dance at Piccadilly in the heart of London on August 7.

As the staged routine drew to an end, Joe pulled out an engagement ring to ask for Monica’s hand in marriage, bringing the city to a standstill – and she said yes.

‘Most nervous I’ve ever been in my entire life,’ Joe told Sunrise.

‘I’d been planning it for a couple of months. The whole holiday was sort of a bit… Like it was always there at the back of my mind knowing this was coming up.’

Monica laughed as she revealed she initially wondered why her boyfriend was suddenly showing an interest in street performances.

‘You could see on my face, I was just a little bit over it and not impressed,’ she said.

‘It’s good that people can watch it and hopefully see that romance isn’t dead and guys can get inspired to think outside the box,’ Monica said.

The heartwarming video shows Monica being moved to tears when her boyfriend popped the question, prompting cheers from the crowd.

The love-struck man had enlisted some help, including his mother Claire and a marriage proposal planner he found in the UK.

His sister Lea and their cousin Paige also made the special trip abroad to wear ‘Will You Marry Me’ T-shirts in the flash mob.
