John Legend plays the piano at sunset in an empty field as Faouzia joins him in new duet Minefields

John Legend and Faouzia dropped a stunning music video for their heartbreaking duet Minefields on Thursday, which featured them singing as explosions went off all around them.

As the pair portrayed star-crossed lovers in the dramatic footage, the 42-year-old Grammy winner and his duet partner, 20, were separated by a great distance as they performed separately in an empty field at dusk.

The performance began with Legend playing a black grand piano, before his costar appears in an ethereal white dress and her dark hair in a waist-long ponytail.

They both go on to harmonize in the chorus: ‘Ooh-ooh, maybe I’m just a fool I still belong with you Anywhere you, anywhere you are.’

Unlike her other flowing gown, she could be seen rocking a black lacey look, while sitting on a piano bench with her hands on the keys in the middle of a river.

As clips of her running in a forest with white snow-like flakes dropping around her, the video panned to Legend sitting at the same piano in a dress shirt and jacket as the sun rises.

‘These minefields keeping me from you, what I risk to be close to you,’ the duo sing together, until they unite and minefields explode around them.

Though a star on the rise in comparison to legend, the magnitude of Faouzia’s star quality was abundantly clear based on her tone of voice.

The emotional love ballad also features Charlie Puth on piano, but he was not present in the music video.

Earlier this week, the pair dropped a 20-second teaser of the video, which earned a lot of praise from excited fans and friends.

Supportive wife Chrissy Teigen gushed, ‘My bear. What is it like to be such a bear,’ as she referred to him as her endearing pet name.

A source of inspiration for virtually all of his songs, like All Of Me, the loved-up pair most recently appeared in the music video for his song Wild over the summer.

A notable track for Faouzia after acting as both songwriter and vocalist, she spoke to Fashion Magazine in December and spoke about the collaboration, sharing it was originally a solo piece.

‘We had intended for it to be a solo song but then we started to think, “what if there was a big, beautiful male vocal on it?” We started to name names and John Legend’s name came up, so we reached out to him. We didn’t expect him to come back so soon and to love the song. He sent his vocals in and we all fell in love with it, it was so beautiful.’

She continued to describe working with Legend as a ‘pleasure,’ while adding that the whole thing was done virtually.

‘John recorded on top of my vocals, and what I really loved about what he did was he made it sound very much like a proper duet.’

‘It’s a beautiful mixture of our voices where we both are in harmony. I feel so honored that he’s on the song.’

In an interview with Billboard, she also said ‘despite the long (and cold) days’ she ‘had such an amazing time’ on set and was grateful ‘for the countless talented people working behind the scenes to bring this beautiful visual to life.’
