John Mayer debuts cheeky song poking fun at David Geffen for yacht picture

John Mayer probably won’t be invited on David Geffen’s yacht once the coronavirus blows over.

The 42-year-old singer took to his Instagram on Monday night to share that the new parody jingle ‘Drone Shot of My Yacht’ was stuck in his head after he saw the billionaire’s out-of-touch photo.

‘If it’s stuck in my head, it might as well be stuck in yours. Here’s “Drone Shot of My Yacht,”‘ Mayer said. in the post that has been viewed more than 600,000 times.

The video included various drone shots of Geffen’s luxurious boat, with Mayer taking the opportunity to poke fun at how ridiculous Geffen’s message was.

‘Drone shot on my yacht, it’s all I got. I’m all alone on the water,’ Mayer croons as he sings the chorus.

He repeats it again before breaking into a hilarious but brief verse.

‘Let me flex these specks,’ he continues. ‘450ft 67 decks. You can try to stretch your neck. See all the stuff around me, I don’t give a heck.’

The Gravity singer breaks out into the chorus again as the brief clip comes to a close.

Mayer’s post comes after Geffen took to Instagram to share a photo of his $590million superyacht to show where he was doing social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

‘Sunset last night…’ Geffen wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday morning, accompanied by a picture of his $590million superyacht floating in the waters of the Caribbean.

‘Isolated in the Grenadines avoiding the virus. I hope everybody is staying safe,’ added the music mogul, who is worth an estimated $7.7 billion.

The post, which has since been hidden from public view, drew furious backlash as a ‘tone-deaf’ response to the crisis, which has killed more than 2,000 in the U.S. and affected virtually every corner of the nation.

‘Brave of David Geffen to do social isolation on a cruise ship,’ wrote Aaron Levie, the CEO of business software company Box.

‘Ironic that David Geffen is tone deaf,’ another person tweeted, referring to Geffen’s career as a music producer.

Others suggested that Geffen, 77, could be doing more to help during the pandemic.

‘David Geffen is out of touch,’ the Twitter user wrote. ‘Maybe if he made a large donation for medical protective gear for our overworked nurses, doctors & medical staff, he wouldn’t come off as an elitist jerk.’

‘David Geffen could have donated that yacht to NYC to be used as a makeshift hospital,’ New York Times columnist Wajahat Ali tweeted.

However, not everyone was so put out by Geffen’s post, which included two wide shots of the ‘Rising Sun’ yacht, as well as one of the luxurious main deck.

Spotted in the comments before the post was made private, Wendi Murdoch, the ex-wife of news mogul Rupert Murdoch, responded with a series of heart-eyes emojis.

In better times, Geffen was known as someone willing to lend his yacht to his famous pals, hosting Paul McCartney, supermodel Karlie Kloss, designer Misha Nonoo, billionaires Henry Kravis and Barry Diller, Hollywood-agent-turned-media-adviser Michael Kives and venture capitalist Joshua Kushner.

Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump have both also been known to spend time aboard the vessel, despite Geffen’s reputation as a top Democrat donor.
