John McAfee claims he’s holed up in an aluminum foil-lined room in Lithuania ‘to evade the CIA’

Antivirus software pioneer John McAfee claims he and his wife have fled to ‘an ultra-secure facility’ in Lithuania to evade the CIA – by revealing on Twitter that they’re holed up in a room covered in aluminum foil.

The millionaire, 73, shared his location as Vilnius, Lithuania, in the tweet on Tuesday.

McAfee was last seen in London late last week – just days after fleeing the Dominican Republic where Caribbean authorities arrested him and his wife for sailing into the island with a boat-load of firearms.

He was not detained by the US government and Dominican authorities allowed him to choose where he would be sent after they ensured the United States had no active legal cases or extradition requests for McAfee, his lawyer had said.

But revealing he was in Vilnius, Lithuania, McAfee wrote: ‘Sorry for the silence. @theemrsmcafee and I are now in Eastern Europe at an ultra-secure facility.

‘We are, for now, out of reach of the corrupt elements of the (In-)Justice Department. We are healthy and safe. Have missed you guys. Will tell more later.’

He later updated his one million followers with a selfie of him and his wife, Janice, tweeting: ‘.@theemrsmcafee and I in Lithuania at our secure facility. The long arm of the corrupt U.S. Justice Department does not reach here.

‘We will relax a day or two and get back to the business of fighting injustice wherever we find it.’

That tweet just hours later put his location as South San Francisco, California.

The couple had been detained in the Dominican Republic with five others after being suspected of traveling on a yacht carrying high-caliber weapons, ammunition and military-style gear, officials said.

He was released on Wednesday and left the Dominican Republic on Thursday with his wife. They then had a stop-over in Madrid, before landing in London and then heading to Lithuania.

There he claimed ‘DOJ and CIA kidnap teams were circling like vultures’ but the couple were kept ‘safe with multiple witnesses’ and people ‘who slept on the floor of our hotel room for protection’.

He tweeted: ‘The bad guys never came close. We are out of England now and on our way to complete safety. We will not be silenced.’

He had earlier said: ‘On the move again. The long arm of the US is reaching for us here in London. Thank God it’s a weekend. Government bureaucracy paperwork is stalled until tomorrow morning. We are never stalled. Will update you soon.’

After pictures emerged of the eccentric anti-virus pioneer topless in a prison cell he tweeted: ‘Everyone asking …. how did I smuggle a smart phone into jail? No body orifices were needed. It was simple sleight of hand.

‘If my hands were bigger I could have smuggled a Bangkok prostitute in with me.’

The Caribbean island’s armed forces and public ministry said on Wednesday that McAfee was taken into custody along with his wife Elizabeth, US citizen Richard Alan Gibson, Robert Whitfield of Germany, Oral Thompson of The Bahamas and Vasner Louis of Haiti.

After Dominican authorities ensured the United States had no active legal cases or extradition requests for McAfee, they allowed him to choose where he would be sent, lawyer Candido Simon said and he chose London.

McAfee, was born in 1945 at a US military base on British territory, has both nationalities and on Friday asked his Twitter followers whether he should campaign to be British prime minister.

McAfee, is also seeking the Libertarian Party’s nomination for U.S. president in 2020, recently told Reuters in an interview he could help Cuba defeat the U.S. trade embargo by launching a cryptocurrency.

He developed early internet security software and has been sought by authorities in the US and Belize in the past.
