Johnny Walker chucked out of the arena at UFC 279 with no shoes on and still in his fighting gloves

Conor McGregor coach John Kavanagh claims UFC threw Johnny Walker out of the arena at UFC 279 with no shoes on and still in his fighting gloves after winning first fight on the main card… but Dana White says he doesn’t know what happened

Johnny Walker managed to get back in the win column at UFC 279, but he certainly didn’t get to enjoy it.

In the opening bout on the main card, Walker secured a first-round submission victory over Ion Cutelaba after only winning once in his previous five outings.

The Brazilian, who trains in the same gym as Conor McGregor under John Kavanagh, was promptly chucked out of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas before the conclusion of the event.

Kavanagh tweeted: ‘So @ufc just came and kicked us out. No tickets for us and not allowed stay back stage to watch. Pulled out back door, kicked out, no even shoes on.’

The head of SBG in Dublin, Ireland went on to post a video in Vegas and further detailed the incident.

‘So here we are back at the hotel. Johnny still doesn’t have any shoes on. Didn’t get a chance to get changed.’

Walker chimed in: ‘They kicked me back to the hotel like “You win the fight, go back to the hotel motherf*****. I didn’t take my gloves off!’

In a reply, Kavanagh would reveal that they were told the ejection was for ‘security reasons’.

Dana White was asked about it in the post-show press conference and he said: ‘I guess since COVID they do this thing where they get fighters right out of here.

‘I don’t know why that happened. We’re not throwing Johnny Walker out on the street shoeless, I’m sure. We threw him right out on the f***ing streets, huh? It’s rough around here! I dunno.’

Ironically, Walker was one of four UFC fighters to walk away with a $50,000 bonus for his performance tonight.

Walker, Nate Diaz, Irene Aldana and Jailton Almeida secured Performance of the Night bonuses.
