Jonathan Dick to face more charges after he allegedly murdered his brother in Melbourne Westfield

One of Australia’s most wanted fugitives is hit with a string of new charges after being arrested over the murder of his brother

  • Jonathan Dick is expected to face new charges relating to attempted murder
  • He is believed to have stalked a victim connected to Monday’s citizen’s arrest
  • He is also accused of murdering his brother with a samurai sword in 2017

One of Australia’s most wanted men is facing attempted murder and stalking charges as well as accusations he murdered his brother David with a samurai sword.

Police say Jonathan Dick, 41, will be charged with the attempted murder of a man over an incident in Keilor in 2017 and stalking connected to his bloody citizen’s arrest in Melbourne’s CBD on Monday.

He is facing Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Dick briefly faced court on Monday night charged with one count of murder for allegedly killing his brother with the sword at a Melbourne shopping centre in February 2017.

The fugitive’s two-year run came to an end when he was arrested on Monday morning after an assault in Melbourne’s CBD on the corner of Flinders Street and Hosier Lane.

Dick was covered in blood when he was arrested and taken to hospital under police guard, while two men involved in the citizen’s arrest assisted police with their investigation.

A red-handled, curved knife and what appeared to be blood were seen on the ground where he was arrested.

Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton commended the people who performed a citizen’s arrest to capture Dick and said they may be considered for the reward.

‘We strongly believe that he represented a significant risk to community safety while he was out and about,’ Mr Ashton said

‘He didn’t rely on his regular network of people that we knew about. (It) seems as though in recent times he’s been sleeping rough and that’s made the task even more challenging.’

Last year a $100,000 reward was issued for information leading to Dick’s arrest over his brother’s murder and an attack on a man with a hammer five months later.

Dick’s mother Carol Cloke said she was grateful her surviving son was found alive.

‘I’m overwhelmed by the news this morning that my son has been found. All I ever wanted was for him to be found alive and I feel comfort in that,’ she said in a statement.

Ms Cloke thanked her friends, family and police who had supported her through the past two-and-a-half years since David’s death.

‘I have never felt alone during this because of their support,’ she said.

Police had released CCTV of Dick in a bid to find him, as well photos of his tattoos: a Wolverine versus Sabretooth tattoo on his right thigh, and an Incredible Hulk tattoo on his left calf.
