Jonathan Ross has a more subdued Halloween as he greets trick-or-treaters at his home

His annual Halloween party has become famous for its extravagant dress code and star-studded guest list.

But Jonathan Ross had a much more subdued October 31 this year as he greeted trick-or-treaters outside his London home on Saturday.

While he would normally be dressed in a head-turning costume, Jonathan, 59, sported a navy boiler suit this year as his party could not go ahead due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

However, the chat show host still ensured there was some entertainment for trick-or-treaters as he had two ghoulish figures handing out treats.

Still keeping with the spirit of the holiday, Jonathan covered his front gate in cobwebs and stuck two large jack-o’-lanterns on either side of the entrance.

The TV star, who wore a face mask for the evening, also strung up fairy lights on his front hedge in the symbol of a bat.

Jonathan also places lots of pumpkins outside his front door but it was still a far cry from the decorations he usually has for the day.

The presenter’s Halloween parties, attended by the likes of Claudia Schiffer and Alan Carr, are so packed full of stars that he has previously enlisted the help of the police to protect both guests and the public.

Jonathan appeared in good spirits as he greeted trick-or-treaters alongside a man in dramatic ghost makeup and and a grey top hat.

Guests at Jonathan’s Halloween party last year included Holly Willoughby, David Wallaims, Davina McCall and Liam Payne.

While officers weren’t stationed on the front door of Jonathan’s Hampstead property last year, a policing plan was drawn up ‘for the protection of the public’.

Reasons given for the outlay were potential dangers to the public from crowding of the pavement, spilling onto the road and impingement of traffic.

It comes after Jonathan revealed he has the largest toy collection in Britain on Shopping with Keith Lemon.

The star spoke candidly with the comedian, 47, saying he was keen to build his collection because his parents couldn’t afford the toys he wanted when he was a kid.

Saying he was keen to build his collection because his parents couldn’t afford the toys he wanted when he was a kid, according to a report from The Mirror on Thursday.

During the show, he explains: ‘All the stuff I wanted as a kid, I couldn’t have. So now I’ve bought it all for myself, and that just makes me feel even sadder.

Jonathan discussed the Thunderbird 2 model he became obsessed with as a kid, saying he would visit a friend’s house just to play with it.

‘Then I got it for Christmas. But when I looked at it, it had his name written on the bottom in biro,’ he explained.

‘His parents had given it to the local jumble sale. So there’s kind of a bittersweet thing about toys for me, which is that all the stuff I wanted, I never had.’

In May, Jonathan showed Loose Women a glimpse inside his incredible man-cave, which he has lovingly personalised to reflect his life-long interest in comics, cult films, television, games and pulp fiction literature.

Discussing the logistics of being away from his three children during lockdown, Jonathan revealed the enormous spare room and its boys-own array of collectables, visible as he talked via videolink.

A self-confessed American comic book fan since the age of eight, it is no surprise Jonathan has fashioned one of his rooms as a shrine to his passion which displayed his very extensive collection.

The star is also an avid model design maker and does so in the comfort of his comic book man-cave.
