Josh Frydenberg’s two children struggle to contain their boredom during the Budget

The real stars of the Budget: Josh Frydenberg’s two young children struggle to contain their boredom as he hands down his forecast before his wife is forced to tell them to shhhhh

  • Josh Frydenberg’s two children appeared bored during Tuesday night’s Budget
  • Gemma and Blake sat alongside their mother at the House of Representatives
  • Treasurer’s wife Amie was forced to tell her son to ‘shush’ during proceedings

Josh Frydenberg’s two young children struggled to contain their boredom as their  treasurer father unveiled the Budget – with his wife forced to tell them to ‘shush’.

Mr Frydenberg’s family were seen sitting to the side of the House of Representatives at Parliament House on Tuesday night as the Morrison government’s 2021/22 Budget was delivered to the nation.

The government has extended tax breaks for 10million Aussies, increased welfare for those looking for jobs, reformed childcare to save 250,000 families an average of $2,200 a year, and made it easier for single parents to buy their first home.

But the treasurer’s two children Gemma and Blake did not seem particularly inspired by the announcements, with their attention focused elsewhere.

The youngsters sat on either side of their mother Amie, who stunned in a brown long dress, with a slit down the middle.

She was forced to lift her index finger to her mouth to advise her kids to keep quiet during the proceedings.

Gemma wore a glittery dress with a tutu suit, while her little brother donned a white button-up shirt, matched with blue Nike sneakers.

In another shot from the Budget, Ms Frydenberg was seen distracting the children with some chocolate.

The treasurer appeared on Today on Wednesday morning, where host Allison Langdon joked that ‘the kids looked riveted’.

Mr Frydenberg replied: ‘My little four-year-old boy, Blake, said to me after, daddy, daddy, did you see I stood there so quiet and so still.’

‘He told me three times he was very proud of the fact.

‘It has been a hard year for a lot of Australian families, over the course of this pandemic.

‘I have spent a lot of time away from home and my family has been a rock for me and it was really special to have them share the moment in the Parliament.’

While he was glad to have their support, Mr Frydenberg admitted his children would probably have been ‘much happier’ watching Peppa Pig.

Mr Frydenberg’s decision to focus on jobs and the economy means large budget deficits for years to come, and net debt on a trajectory towards $1 trillion.

The government on Tuesday also revealed Australia would be shut off to the rest of the world until at least mid-2022.
