Josh Sills: Philadelphia Eagles NFL player indicted on rape, kidnapping charges ahead of Super Bowl

Josh Sills, an offensive linesman for the Philadelphia Eagles, has been indicted on rape and kidnapping charges, just 10 days out from the Super Bowl.

It’s alleged that Sills, who is six foot six inch and 325 pounds, ‘engaged in sexual activity that was not consensual and held a victim against her will.’

Ohio prosecutors said on Wednesday that Sills ‘forcibly restrained and raped a woman’ in December 2019, prompting the Guernsey County’s Sheriff Office to launch a probe into the incident.

Following the investigation a grand jury indicted 25-year-old Sills on one felony count of rape and one felony count of kidnapping, he’s expected in court Feb 16.

Sills was undrafted in 2022 but was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles in April and went on to make their final roster, playing against the Cardinals in week five.

The Attorney General released a statement which said: ‘In December 2019, the indictment says, Sills engaged in sexual activity that was not consensual and held a victim against her will.

‘The crime was immediately reported, and the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office conducted a detailed investigation.

‘The case was presented to the grand jury and is being prosecuted by the Special Prosecutions Section of the Attorney General’s Office.’

Sills was issued a summons to appear in Guernsey County Common Pleas Court at 1pm on Feb 16.

Count one the jury found that Sills ‘did engage in sexual conduct’ with the victim only referred to as M.M. they said that he ‘purposely compelled her to submit to force or threat of force.’

Count two the jury found the 25-year-old ‘did, by force, threat, or deception, remove M.M from the place where she was found or restrain the liberty of her for the purpose of facilitating the commission of a felony.’

In a statement to Fox News the Eagles acknowledged that the ‘organization is aware of the legal matter involving Josh Sills.’

‘We have been in communication with the league office and are in the process of gathering more information. We have no further comment at this time,’ they said.

On the Eagles’ depth chart, he is listed as second-choice at right guard, and had a good chance of getting some game-time in the Super Bowl on February 12.

It is currently unclear whether he will still travel with the team to the game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Arizona, or whether he will stay on the team’s roster.

As it stands, he is scheduled to appear in court on February 16, just four days after the conclusion of the Super Bowl.

The Eagles are yet to publicly comment on the indictment.

Sills went to high school at Meadowbrook, Ohio, before playing college football first for West Virginia between 2016 and 2019, and then at Oklahoma State in 2020 and 2021.

His parents, John and Kim, made headlines in 2021 after an article revealed that they had travelled to every single one of their son’s games – bar one – racking up over 232,000 miles in their 2013 Nissan Altima.

His NFL career is currently only four snaps old, with the right guard – and sometimes tackle –  appearing briefly against the Arizona Cardinals in Week Five.
