Joss Whedon’s ex-wife Kai Cole pens essay slamming him

Joss Whedon’s ex-wife Kai Cole penned an essay calling him a ‘hypocrite preaching feminist ideals.’

Architect and producer Cole claims that writer/director Whedon cheated on her multiple times through their 16 year marriage in her piece for The Wrap published on Sunday.

‘He used his relationship with me as a shield … so no one would question his relationships with other women or scrutinize his writing as anything other than feminist,’ she wrote as a guest blogger.

An spokesperson for Whedon responded to the claims as they told DailyMail.com: ‘While this account includes several inaccuracies and misrepresentations which can be harmful to their family, Joss will not be commenting, out of concern for his children and out of respect for his ex-wife.’

There were several damning accusations in the piece written in his ex-wife including Cole writing that she was the one to suggest he turn Buffy The Vampire Slayer into a television show, which was where the first affair occurred allegedly.

‘On the set of Buffy, Joss decided to have his first secret affair,’ she wrote.

‘Joss admitted that for the next decade and a half, he hid multiple affairs and a number of inappropriate emotional ones that he had with his actresses, co-workers, fans and friends, while he stayed married to me,’ Cole added.

Cole states Whedon sent a letter admitting the extramarital affairs occurred because he was ‘surrounded by beautiful, needy, aggressive young women’.

‘It felt like I had a disease, like something from a Greek myth. Suddenly I am a powerful producer and the world is laid out at my feet and I can’t touch it,’ Cole claims Whedon’s letter read.

Whedon has long been hailed as a feminist icon for fostering strong powerful female characters in his popular television shows and movies such as Buffy, Firefly, Dollhouse, and the Avengers.

However, Cole wrote: ‘Despite understanding, on some level, that what he was doing was wrong, he never conceded the hypocrisy of being out in the world preaching feminist ideals, while at the same time, taking away my right to make choices for my life and my body based on the truth.’

‘He deceived me for 15 years, so he could have everything he wanted,’ she continued.

Cole states that she has been dealing with a Complex PTSD diagnosis but is ready to ‘let women know that he is not who he pretends to be’.

‘I want the people who worship him to know he is human, and the organizations giving him awards for his feminist work, to think twice in the future about honoring a man who does not practice what he preaches.’

In May it was reported that Whedon had quietly filed for divorce back in December 6, 2012.

The official documents list the date of separation as eight months prior on April 20, 2012 and cited irreconcilable differences, according to Us Weekly.

Cole and Whedon share 14-year-old Arden Avery and 12-year-old Squire Annelee.
