June Dally-Watkins dies aged 92

Australia’s first supermodel June Dally-Watkins dies in her sleep aged 92 – leaving behind a legacy as the nation’s ‘etiquette queen’

Australia’s first supermodel and queen of deportment June Dally-Watkins has died at the age of 92.

Her family announced she died peacefully on Saturday night with her loved ones by her side. 

Born near Tamworth in country New South Wales in 1927, she went on to become Australia’s first supermodel before becoming Australia’s best known etiquette expert.

In 1950, she established the June Dally-Watkins School which eventually trained hundreds of Australian women in deportment and etiquette.

She later established Australia’s first modelling agency and business college and was dubbed the country’s ‘etiquette queen’.

‘Terrible news to hear today but Miss Dally will be remembered by so many as an inspiration to always be ‘The Best That You Can Be’ no matter where you come from. Rest in peace Miss Dally,’  the June Dally-Watkins School posted on its Facebook page on Sunday.

She was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1993 for services to business, and was named as one of the 100 Australian Legends and a National Treasure.

Mrs Dally-Watkins is survived by four children, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral details will be released at a later time.
