Jurgen Klopp met with a big roar from Liverpool fans as he steps into Anfield ahead of Norwich, the German manager’s first match since he announced he was leaving in the summer

Jurgen Klopp was met with a huge roar from Liverpool fans as he entered the pitch ahead of their FA Cup game at home to Norwich City.

The fourth round fixture is Klopp’s first match since his announcement on Friday that he will leave the Reds at the end of this season.

And when the team came out for their warm-ups, accompanied by the German manager, there was a loud roar recognising the importance of Klopp to Liverpool.

In the moments immediately before kick-off, there was a similar loud noise as Anfield prepared for the start of the game, as well as the ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ which left Klopp feeling emotional in the dugout before the start of the game.

Speaking to ITV ahead of kick-off, Klopp said: ‘There will be a moment at the end of the season when we say goodbye, and it will be emotional, but between now and then we have a massive job to do’.

Despite Virgil van Dijk’s claim that Liverpool are determined to ‘achieve success’ in the final months of Klopp’s reign, the manager said he did not expect anything different from his players despite Friday’s news.

Klopp said: ‘We will keep playing the way we play. That doesn’t mean that we will win all the games, but it will not be the reason for not winning a football game.’

Reports claimed Liverpool staff and players were left in shock by Klopp’s decision, with some in tears upon hearing the news.

Assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, along with first-team development coach Vitor Matos, will also leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
