Justin Gaethje warns Islam Makhachev he will NOT dominate Charles Oliveira at UFC 280

‘He hurt me often, he hurt me early… it felt like my tongue was on a super powerful battery!’: Justin Gaethje warns Islam Makhachev he will NOT dominate Charles Oliveira, having felt Brazilian’s skills first-hand

  • Charles Oliveira defeated Justin Gaethje in their lightweight bout back in May
  • Brazilian missed weight so it was not for belt but he is still the de facto champion
  • He will lock horns with Islam Makhachev, who many believe has the tools to win
  • But Gaethje warned that the Dagestani will not have it all his own way in October

Justin Gaethje has issued a stark warning to Islam Makhachev, revealing that nobody has ever hurt him as the Brazilian did.

Oliveira dominated the American in their bout back in May, winning by rear-naked choke in the very first round.

And next up for the former lightweight champion, who was stripped of his belt for missing weight prior to the Gaethje clash, is Islam Makhachev on October 22 at UFC 280.

Charles Oliveira submitted Justin Gaethje in the first round of their fight back in May

Gaethje said: ‘I’m 100-percent confident that Islam will not dominate Charles.

‘I think Charles is gonna move forward. Islam’s gonna try (to wrestle) and eventually, he might be successful.

‘And if he is, he’ll win. But I don’t see him tiring (Oliveira) out. Even if he takes him down for the first two rounds, I don’t see Charles getting submitted, and I don’t see him being too exhausted to continue to fight the fight that he needs to fight.’

‘The Highlight’ was swift to praise Oliveira for his impressive display against him and even said he’s never experienced anything like it.

‘My last fight, Charles was brilliant,’ Gaethje continued. ‘And he hurt me often, he hurt me early.

‘Ten seconds in, I was really hurt, and probably four times after that. I felt something I never felt in the cage. It’s a feeling I’ve never felt.

‘Usually, you get hit, you call it a buzz, call it a flash. This is more like my tongue just went on a super powerful battery and it just… my entire body was crazy. It was perfect shots, perfect time, one or the other.’

Oliveira has come on leaps and bounds to dominate all comers since Khabib Nurmagomedov’s retirement.

His demolitions of Charles Oliveira, Michael Chandler, Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje demonstrated a game taken to the next level.

Khabib’s protege Makhachev has long been tipped for the top but will have to earn the belt the hard was against the resurgent Brazilian.
