Juventus confident they have WON the race to sign Paul Pogba at the end of his Man United contract

Paul Pogba is heading for a return to Juventus with a full agreement for the Manchester United star now close.

Paris Saint-Germain are preparing one final contract offer to snatch Pogba from under the Italian club’s noses – but Juve are confident they have won the race.

The France international has been offered a three year deal by the Serie A club, worth close to £30 million over the term of the contract.

It remains to be seen if PSG’s offer can persuade Pogba into a rethink.

There is a synergy in Pogba’s potential move to his homeland – France’s World Cup winner returning to the nation’s capital.

But as it stands he is poised for a return to Turin.

Sportsmail revealed this month how Manchester City were interested in signing Pogba on a free transfer in what would have been one of the most dramatic moves in English football history.

The 29-year-old gave serious consideration to the move but has decided his next transfer should be abroad.

Pogba could play his last game for Manchester United in their final game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

It has previously been reported though that Pogba is said to have reservations about playing in the fixture – over fears of a fan backlash.

His return to the Red Devils has not gone to plan and he has received stern criticism from fans and pundits over his under-par displays over the years, and last month he was booed twice by supporters – after United’s 3-2 win over Norwich and when he was subbed during their 4-0 loss against Liverpool. 

That game against Liverpool – where Pogba limped out due to the calf injury – was the last time he featured for the Red Devils, and could be his last ever game if he decides not to play on the final day.

It was also reported that the same fear of a fan backlash was what prevented him from joining Manchester City. 

Pogba’s return to Manchester United in 2016 for £89million never worked out as hoped

The Frenchman was recently jeered by his own supporters against Norwich and Liverpool

According to The Times, Pogba agreed personal terms with City for a potential free transfer this summer, before pulling out of the move due to concerns about the negative reaction he would receive from United supporters.

He is said to have felt that his life in Manchester would become ‘unbearable’ because of the backlash it would provoke from the red half of the city.

Carlos Tevez was the last high-profile player to make the move across Manchester, swapping United for City in 2009 and becoming an instant villain at Old Trafford in the process.

Pogba does not want to spark a similar controversy, however, meaning he decided to U-turn on his agreed switch to the Etihad and inform Pep Guardiola and Co that he will instead be moving abroad.

The Frenchman’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta, reportedly flew to Turin earlier this week to discuss a reunion with Juventus.

Pimenta, a Brazilian lawyer, is the business partner of Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, and has taken over the Italian’s agency following his death last month.

Pogba signed for Manchester United for a club record £89million back in the summer of 2016.

His six years at the club have seen him constantly be linked with moves away from Old Trafford, with his return not working out as either party would have hoped  – especially with the club being unable to mount a challenge for the game’s biggest prizes.

The midfielder’s second stint at the club has seen him score 39 goals in 226 appearances with just one Europa League and a Carabao Cup triumph in that time.
