Mario Mandzukic and Emre Can have been left out Juventus’ 22-man squad for this season’s Champions League.

The pair were the notable absentees as Maurizio Sarri’s selections were made public on Tuesday.

They have paid the price for a summer which saw a number of new signings, leaving Sarri with 26 first team players to choose from.

Wojciech Szczesny, Mattia De Sciglio, Matthijs de Ligt, Miralem Pjanic, Sami Khedira, Cristiano Ronaldo, Aaron Ramsey, Paulo Dybala, Douglas Costa, Alex Sandro, Danilo, Blaise Matuidi, Juan Cuadrado, Leonardo Bonucci, Gonzalo Higuain, Daniele Rugani, Merih Demiral, Adrien Rabiot, Rodrigo Bentancur, Carlo Pinsoglio, Federico Bernardeschi, Gianluigi Buffon

Summer additions Matthijs de Ligt, Danilo, Merih Demiral, Adrien Rabiot, Aaron Ramsey and Gianluigi Buffon have all been included while Gonzalo Higuain also makes the cut after returning from loan.

Paulo Dybala, who was strongly linked with a move away from the club, has also been selected.

Captain Giorgio Chiellini was left out but that was to be expected with the defender having been ruled out for six months after undergoing surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Mandzukic won the tournament with Bayern Munich in 2013 and also scored in Juve’s final defeat by Real Madrid in 2017.

Can reached the final with Liverpool in 2018, where he came on as a second-half substitute.
